I had Samsonite hard shell carry on that met its demise this weekend. I go on a long trip next Thursday and don't really have a lot of time to go looking around.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a piece that would be good for business travel? I googled several different reviews but get all types of bullshite that I'm not sure i can trust.

I use the Patagonia MLC for business travel. I love it.
I wear it with one of the backpack straps instead of the messenger strap. It fits in every overhead bin, though I've had to remove my laptop on the small planes. I'm not lazy enough to need wheels on a piece of luggage, and on the small planes roller boards have to checked at the gate.
Laptop pocket.
I just leave one of these tucked in.

Hartmannn.
22", 4 wheeler.
If you travel a lot, you will end up buying several pieces and using whichever one fits the mission. There really isn't one piece for every need.
ETA: Hartmann $239

Gaston, thanks for the recs but I do need wheels. The international airports I go through are huge and involve a lot of walking and usually while I'm trying to make phone calls, answer emails, etc. It's not a lazy thing, it's an efficiency thing in my case.

quote:Personal travel usually domestic and not too demanding. Business, I usually make about 3-4 big trips a year and they are demanding on the luggage. My main bag and the one I use for suits are fine. I just need to replace my carry on quickly so I'll probably buy on Amazon Prime before lunch.

Do the wheels turn themselves?
I am having a hard time imagining how pulling/pushing a bag would be more efficient then wearing as a backpack or strapping across the chest with the bag behind you. Both hands would be free.
I also have the MLC and it is great. My next bag will be a filson Pullman though.

Same way I used to do it.
I could basically put all my stuff in a good carry on and just deal with one bag on the plane.
Good luck.

The wheels are great. I travel weekly and the Avole 2.0 has held up. Takes a lot of abuse.

quote:Go from one end of Hamad International with a backpack strapped to you and you'll be wanting something with wheels I assure you. It's a lot of conveyor walkways with little gaps you have to walk every once in a while. I don't want to be picking up, putting down a backpack and certainly don't want it strapped to my back and wrinkling shirts, weighing me down, etc.

If you travel more than 3 or 4 times a year, good bags are well worth it.
I have 4 Tumi bags, and paid less than 50% of MSRP for every one of them. I won't need a suitcase for years.

I've used Eagle Creek only for about 10 years, and I've never had to repair/replace a bag, I've only added new ones as I desired.

Man, that's actually pretty cheap for a Hartmann.
They hold up well.

I almost bought a Pullman but decided it was more than I need. Now use a Filson medium travel bag for easier trips

Tumi Tumi Tumi functional, tough as hell, perfect in every way. Well worth the $$

Thanks everyone for the recs. Wasn't easy to pick one. I've had laptop bags of this brand before and I was very happy with them. That swayed me also.
