Do you use them?

Do you like them?

How did you transition?

Do you feel better after using them?

Just curious

Just started running in them

No idea what this means

I like minimal shoes in everything I do. I hate thick soles. I just like light shoes.

Minimal shoes are not miracle cure for running injuries or anything like that, for most people its just a personal preference.

These have been definitively reviewed by AMSSM, ACSM, AAFP and AOSSM as harmful to feet and joints for runners.

Do yourself a favor and wear good running shoes with good support and cushioning and change them based off of the mileage and weight based graphs.

Saw them on shark tank last night. Or one brand of them rather. J

You trying to improve your times? Here's a secret the pro's won't tell you...

Stick a tack inside the heel of your shoe... It will keep you on your toes and if you get lazy and hit it, it will ensure that you pick up the pace.

These are the Chevy Volts and Nissan Leafs of the running world. So much smug pollution.

I bought some Xero shoes, but I'm not fond of them. The problem is the cord between my toes. They now have a running sandal that isn't a thong. I wish I had waited for those.
I'm a frequent runner. I've used the Nike Free shoes for many years. I'm starting to try some of the other minimalist shoes by New Balance.

Thanks, will try the tack idea.

And thanks. Just got done reading another website that said it can cause more calf and Achilles strain. Was just curious about them. I didn't see how they would be great but ya never know.

Yes, I use them and like them. I run about 40% of my miles BF but run the remainder in shoes ranging from 0 drop to 10mm. My transition was easy because I was a low mileage runner at the time. I just started slow and gradually added miles. I exclusively run in different NB versions.

ACSM actually recommends shoes with zero drop...

and AMSSM studies were nothing definitive...

quote:

As above, it
appears that the theoretical benefits
of barefoot and minimalist running
are reaped with experience. More
research is clearly needed whenever
a possible prevention or management
approach presents itself. However,
closing the door abruptly on barefoot
or minimalist running at this point
indeed would seem unscientific; man
has been running this way for centuries,
and only fairly recently has he ran
shod by well-cushioned shoes, with
apparently no real benefit

1 - Short runs...5 miles or less I'll use them.

2 - Yes, for the above stated purpose.

3 - Didn't take much...I strike mid-foot to front.

4 - Your caalves will feel it.

I've been running in them for about 5 years. I love them. I have Vibram KSO, Merrill Vapors and some Merrill road shoes that are 0 drop but have a little bit of sole for longer runs. I transitioned to them over about two months, and have not run in anything else since. Take it slow and you will be fine. Try walking in them first, then a few days later run 1-2 miles, the next week try 3, etc...They are one of the few things in life that do not involve alcohol that make me feel like a ten year old again.

Those Vibram FiveFinger "shoes" were a fad. Saw them all over the place about 4 years ago, haven't seen a pair in over a year.

Yes.

Yes, on shorter runs. Anything over 5 miles and it gets iffy.

How did you transition?

Bought a pair of Fivefingers and starting sneaking them in to my rotation once a week. Transitioned to a pair of Brooks Puredrifts. I have a pair of Brooks Ghost 7's, and I still run in my Puredrifts at least once a week. I feel like it gives me better form.

I used to get a lot of pain in the tendons in the bottom of my foot. Since I started rotating minimalist shoes into my running regime, I don't. I also have not had issues with Shin Splints in over two years.

If you are a heavy heel striker and you put on a pair of Fivefingers and try to run a marathon, you'll probably have terrible results. Use a little common sense.

BTW: FiveFingers are comfortable as hell. I bought mine with no intention of ever running in them just because I spend most of my time walking around barefoot on the weekends and I'm not a fan of flip flops. I'm on my second pair.

Zero drop is not the same as barefoot, you know this.

and there are many many more links and studies done indicating benefit/risk ratio that favors not using minimalist shoes or barefoot running.
But, as I tell my pts, I'm just here to share the information, do with it as you please.

Quit heel striking and you'll run safer. You cause so much strain on your knee heel striking. Now, you have to work up to running minimal. Like was stated, walk around for a couple of days and then add a little at a time. Most injuries occur from people jumping right in and trying to kill it. Take it slow, and light. Enjoy it.

After transitioning, my calves are fine. I am not fast, but can cruise.

As an old country boy who pretty much does all my yard work barefoot throughout the summer, one thing I don't do is walk barefoot (or run barefoot on that I actually run at all). Sidewalks are concrete and high school tracks are not much softer.

And if I'm going to wear a shoe to walk or run I might as well get one that does not have barefoot in its name.

Never use them on the roads. After a few times of running on asphalt and concrete, I thought my shins were going to shatter

As an older, former runner, I'd advise babying your weight bearing joints as much as you can.
