OT psychologists....verbal vs performance IQ?

I took one of those WAIS IV tests a week ago, and spoke to the woman this morning about my results this morning. I was trying to pinpoint problems with my memory to see if there would be a way for me to circumvent obvious deficiencies. Turns out, I have a verbal IQ of 99 and a performance IQ of 141. When I was 20 and took the test, verbal was much closer to my present-day performance. I haven't gotten the specific results of all of the tests yet, but there are only a few conversations about large variances online. Other than that, it is just a bunch of nothing. I am going to set up a meeting with a neuropsycholigist in the next few weeks to discuss the results.
Mommy forums are one place they talk about this stuff, and they say I am autistic because of the large difference between the two. WebMD says I have a broken leg and nipple cancer. Pretty sure none of those apply. I consider myself pretty good with words, but the definition portion of the test was very tough. I know I did not do well at that. I took a lot of other tests that day. Waiting to get the numbers back in hopes of figuring out a way to get around my memory problems.
My question is about the large spread between verbal and non-verbal IQ. Could that just be the way the test was administered? Is the WAIS IV designed, as a whole, where the specific tests would make up for one bad showing? Does ADHD have a big effect on scores? What are the negatives associated with this test?

WAIS-4 provides, through its many sub-tests, a way to determine the student's true results. While this test does provide a great deal of information, a cognitive ability test should be given in accompaniment with physician reports and parent observations to provide the best idea of where the child is on the IQ scale. The weakness with this assessment is that through its many sub-tests, it does not give proper results as to the correct measure of IQ for many students especially ADHD students. While this assessment is very thorough, its results are oftentimes skewed.

After the test did her jealous ex-boyfriend barge in the room making a scene and you knocked him out with one blow and the the woman got on her knees begging for you to make love to her?

From what I'm thinking, reading comprehension is a big factor in the verbal IQ score. I am definitely weak in that department when timed.

quote:It's theoretically the other way around; the verbal score is likely what impacts the reading comprehension.

quote:But it can also parse out those processing deficits (working memory; processing speed) that are usually impacted by ADHD. So while the full scale score may be an underestimate, the General Ability Index shouldn't be as detrimentally impacted.

they should have used the Wechsler Memory Scale also...

Congrats on the late diagnosis of retardation.

Aren't you the guy with sleeping problems and other things?

quote:No problems, I just don't sleep much (3-5 hours per night). That's not on purpose or because of an alarm clock. It has always been that way. I think I have this genetic thing that allows me to get by on that little sleep.

I took it to see if a certain medicine I'm on effected my cognitive ability, and in what ways. Results show that it quite possibly has, but I don't have the option of changing it. That's why I need to break down these tests

there's no such thing as a performance IQ from a WAIS. there's verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. she may have gotten your performance IQ from some other measure but not from the WAIS.
also you should probably be getting at least 5 hours of sleep a night. if you're trying to go to bed and not able to, you should start seeing a psychologist who specializes in sleep. if you're feeling energized enough and getting by on that 3-5 hours, then you're a genetic miracle.

As I informed the poli board last week, not really a miracle. Certainly rare, but not that rare

Those gaps are also common in High IQ individuals. The best thing is to go over the results with the testing party.

Just checked. It was WAIS 3 that gives those results. I got verbal, performance, and full scale. They changed it for 4.
Also, I cannot sleep longer than 5 hours unless I force it, and then I feel like complete horse shite. Me sleeping 6 hours is like you sleeping 2 hours. I have never slept longer than 5 for a sustained amount of time, and was fine of 2-3 from when I was around 21-25

Simply put, you are much much more intelligent than you come across when talking to others. With that being said, you do come across to others as someone at least with average intelligence,
