Can four year olds embellish like that when it comes to death? Seems like that’s a big leap for a four year old to connect “we killed a cow for dinner” and “slit its throat and blood poured out while the legs danced.”
My son does understand - as best as his brain can handle - that the meat we eat comes from animals we kill. But I would think the gory details would be much for him at this age. Then again, there has to be a good starting point for that reality.

I started showing them how to gut and skin stuff from an early early age. They’ve watched me clean rabbits, squirrels, turtles, fish, etc.
It’s just a part of life. Nothing wrong about it. Don’t make it some taboo or naughty thing.

Possibly, I'm no child psychologist. Understanding reflex movements after throat cutting isn't a good look for the embellishment theory.

My dad wasn't much of a hunter, so my only memories are going with my uncles and some family friends. That being said, holding a gut bag while my uncle was cleaning all the fish we caught is something I'll never forget. I've been around deer cleaning a couple of times, but that is pretty much just butchering an animal into cuts of meat. The smell of fish guts when I was about 7 sticks with me more than anything. That being said, I love to fish still, and prefer saltwater offshore stuff to anything else.

I raised my children to be vegan. They complained for a while but have grown to appreciate it and realized we are doing our part to save the planet.

Big difference between that and what the OP is describing IMO. I want my kids to feel safe around guns and treat them as tools. So I plan to teach them the proper ways to respect and handle guns, not ride around a subdivision shooting street signs so they think it's cool.

He was a four year old boy. He could be barely exposed to hunting and if he has any imagination come up with wild stories like that.

Four year olds can embellish any topic they have been exposed to especially if they have big imaginations. My son was given a sedative before a procedure one time and I was amazed at the random things he embellished.

Started taking mine squirrel hunting bout 7, every kid is different though. My youngest is 5 and I’ll probably start taking he and older one next year when he’s 6. Haven’t taken either deer hunting but I’m mostly public land hunter, so no box stand or anything. We will prob just sit on ground with a little duck blind
ETA: I’ve been laughed at work for it. Most of my buddies have nice pvt leases and have 4-6 year olds, even the girls, killing nice bucks. First time I took mine out squirrel hunting we didn’t even get a kill. Not sure the last time before that I squirrel hunted and didn’t kill several, hard to sneak up with a young boy who has a hard time walking quietly. He has a little bit of that autism in him, had a few therapists or whatever they called say he is. We didn’t get true diagnosis and he does well in school. Certain things that seem simple like walking quietly or hitting a ball with a bat are complicated but he can tell you all about math, space, and smart kid stuff

It was probably after he'd killed them. Some people will hang them upside down and bleed them. I do all my hunting at WF.

My now 8-year old started jugging with me at 2, first alligator hunt was at 3 and always loved to be in the woods with me squirrel hunting. I teach him all the major organs when cleaning game. Always talking about safety when hunting, only kill what you will eat, etc. This year we thought he would play fall ball, but when my wife asked him he said "I just want to hunt and fish more with Dad" HOOKED! Done deal, already having a blast this hunting season!
