My kids self taught by watching and being with me. From an early age he has seen where our food comes from. He has seen me catch and clean fish, process a deer from the beginning, pigs raised for butcher, etc.
Along the way I have taught him to respect the animals for what they are and what we receive from them. It's not about "blowing a deer's head off". He knows we hunt because it's fun and enjoy the challenge. We benefit with getting good, clean meat.
