At this point, I do not kids nor am I close to it, but thought id just like to add in a little bit of input. Ill start off by saying I attended public school all throughout my life. Im turning out ok. But at the same time, I would love to send my kids to private school if possible. I want my kids the best oppurtunity to suceed. If that means private school so be it. But I would prefer to find an exceptional public school to put them in. There are good public schools out there. Many times it just depends on the school district

Public schools are very good locally. I'll take them over any of the private schools in town. Thin there are only two, and they are K-5

The school needs to be well ranked. I prefer public schools, my opinion of private school kids are they end up spoiled children that think they are entitled to a better life. The public school system would have to really suck for me to send my kids to private school, if that was the case, I'd move to a better school district.

Depends on the city. We send our kids to a very good public school here in Memphis. My wife is a physician and we could send our kids to a private school but our 3 are getting just as good an education in their school as they would a private school. My wife has at 7 doctor friends that have taken their kids out of private and placed them in the same school as our kids. We have family members that send 3 girls to one of the all girl private schools in Memphis and they pay close to $65k a year. I'm sure they're getting a good education but I feel my kids are getting just as good an edu if not better. Plus I want my kids to experience diversity. Their school has that. How diverse can it be when all the kids look them same, drive high end cars their parents buy them and 95% of them are the same race. It's all in what you feel is best for your kids. If it's private then great, if it's public then great.

Public school is fine and cheaper and serves the same purpose if you sign your kid up for AP classes. This get them into the classes without the dumb shits who do not give a shite. You feel me sukkah?

Depends on where you live.

Anywhere in Louisiana? Private

Houston or Dallas suburbs? Public

WTF does that mean? Clean? Well mannered? Good posture?

Man, I read your post a couple of times and there is a resentment in there...I'm not sure where it comes from, but you have it. You throw the doctor thing around and talk of your wife's job and your wife's friends...Do you work? Why the complex? Then you throw diversity crap out there and race issues.

So you don't know of their curriculum, but you think you are sure yours is just as good or better?

Just to be honest, it is obvious you know private is better and can't get your kid there for whatever reason....but there is a reason.

But let's do a test.....please tell us the 2 schools in play here, the one private and the one public....let's compare the graduating class and the academic scholarships earned as a percentage of the class. I'll prove to you the private is probably WAY ahead.

If you own a home and pay a shite ton in taxes you better be near a good school or you chose poorly. High taxes and high rating for school then go with public. If you are scared and have the scratch then go private.

My wife is a nurse at a private school. I find it strange. The teachers are not paid as well as public so many of them are inexperienced. You trade some salary to have better students and more engaged parents. But again they are leaving some money on the table.

if that little bit of money matters you shouldn't be in the profession...

It is $10K or so I believe.

Not top be sneezed at. Especially at that age. But at that age anything above 25,000 was big baller money to me.

Many of them end up moving on after they get some experience and networking to find the "right" public school job.

All things being equal I would rather not pony up 8K a year for my kid to fail 4 th grade.

that may be true in some instances, but I know or have known of many highly qualified, experienced teachers that teach at private schools for other reasons, such as religious beliefs, they don't want to put up with the nonsense that goes on in public schools, or they have kids that attend the private schools that get free or discounted tuition, etc.
ETA: and in most instances, their income contribution to the household budget isn't much of a factor anyway

Depends number one on the city and district. If everything else is equal then the next factor is the type of student. Some kids need lots of structure while others learn better in a more free thinking atmosphere.
Take a look at Ben Franklin and Jesuit in New Orleans. Both will provide an excellent education but they have different teaching philosophies. Different children respond to different teaching methods.

my philosophy on that, and I know it's not popular on here, is, unless the kid is handicapped in some way, the kid is going to play the cards he's dealt, because that's the way it's going to be forever, five kids in my family, the first three went to public schools and colleges, all grads with successful careers, the last two went to hoity-toity private schools and are the most self-absorbed, self-entitled frickups you'll run across, of course maybe the first three could be partially at fault for wearing the parents down before they could finish raising the kids

I'd like to see how diverse this public school really is.

Bingo. I posted earlier about his post. Something just isn't right there. Then he throws in comments about parents buying expensive cars, etc. There's some sort if issues going on with him...maybe some sort of money anger. It's just an all around weird post, imo. Maybe they couldn't get into the school.

Just signed up for a private school for the youngest.

I want his character developed. I want him in a place where not only is it ok to say God, but he is encouraged. Also I feel like he is held back (in a highly rated district) to increase local scores.
