My 2013 Silverado (no pics) just threw a po15d code. Google says the most likely cause is a bad oxygen sensor. Any reason I can't drive it around for a few weeks until its convenient to get it looked at? Having it in the shop right now would be a major pain in the arse. TIA and here's something for your trouble

I would not drive a vehicle that's having trouble getting oxygen.

Would you go a few weeks with lung trouble?

I believe changing an O2 sensor is pretty easy. Can you order one yourself?

gas mileage will probably drop by a third.... i wouldn't go more than a couple of weeks.... you could damage your catalytic converter going with a bad o2 sensor for an extended period of time.

Take the negative battery cable off for 2 minutes and put it back on, it will reset the computer.

If you need to ask this question, you should just go trade it in for a VW Beetle.

Shoot no your good baw! Oxygen sensors are liberals way of making you spend more money...

O2 sensors are very easy to change on that model truck... just get an o2 sensor socket and ratchet, I’d hit it with some WD the night before and in the morning let it run a bit to warm up then take it off

Edit again I just looked up the code bank 2 sensor 1. It’s the passenger side sensor right before your cat.. it’ll be on the inside of the frame directly under you passenger seat ish, Hope this helps

If it is an oxygen sensor it is likely most critical for emissions. You might shorten the life of your cats if you keep driving on it but that is probably the biggest risk. Your A:F might be off a bit but it will still run.

perfectly fine to drive. will just have worse gas mileage but not by a third. Resetting the computer will be meaningless. not too hard to change yourself, but they can be hard to get loose. Best to do while engine is warm but that also means easier to burn yourself on the exhaust pipe. spray some penetrating oil on the threads several times. It will soak in. candle wax is also a good way to loosen. Best to buy a slotted socket made for 02 sensors. Some also come with threaders.

This - potential for taking out your catalytic converter and costing you much more in repairs in the long run.

Dump a can of berrymans chemtool in the tank and a bottle of chevron techron. Fill with premium at chevron. Run the nuts off of it for that tank. Drive like a dumbass kid.

Light will probably stay off

Seriously.

Get them hot enough running them hard and it usually burns off any contaminants.

I bet the lady in that pic could change your sensor for you in about 5 minutes.

That's a $100 or less part and a less than 10 minutes swap. Just fix it.

no it wont.

Op you wont pass an emissions check, thats more than likely all you will see. Try resetting your ECU(Disco battery for a few minutes) and see if it comes back

Emissions hardware is usually under warranty for a certain period of time (maybe 100k for GM?)

A bad O2 sensor isn't a big deal. Drive it til you can get it fixed.

Your truck has at least two of them so it's not going to be running in limp mode which would significantly lower your mileage.

EPA mandated 8 years/80,000 Miles for the catalytic converter
