Engine light came on and my truck is running a hair on the cold side. The Engine code is coolant thermostat (coolant thermostat is reading below Thermostat regulating temperature. Pretty sure the thermostat is stuck open.

I watched a video on replacing it and it seems pretty easy. Is there anything else that could be causing it? Sensor?

Just wondering before I go buy the part and plan on doing it myself.

No idea on anything else, but usually they are very easy to replace and can go bad.

But I will say you won't get any help at all unless you put the make, model, year, and engine size to be specific to your vehicle.

I remember years ago removing my thermostat on the side of the road. I live in Georgia, I never replaced it. Piece of shite Datsun truck that I drove for five more years.

Actually, thinking back on it...having a truck for 8 years that only cost me $1200 was a steal.

Take the thermostat out and put it in boiling hot water...If it doesnt open, then it needs to be replaced

If heater gets hot but temp shows cold then its the sensor. If heater gets hot but its gradual and matches temp gauge then its thermostat stuck open.

Probably explains why the dealership quoted me 650 to replace it

Well it had been running cold all week, but today it decided to start running a little hot...then cold, then hot again.

I still think it's the thermostat hanging either open or closed.

They’re supposed to fail Open.
May just be temp sensor?

Jesus, replace the damn thermostat and while your hands are dirty, slap in a new set of spark plugs. Take the 500 bucks you saved and buy something nice for somebody.

Thermostat fricking easy change bro.

Make sure you buy the fricking gasket if it doesn't come with it. The last two were separate from the thermostat. Do not reuse the old one.

Make sure coolant and engine are cool.

What? 60 bucks for labor per hour. I doubt it'll take them over an hour.

Do not overtighten the thermostat housing bolts. The housing is cast and will break easily.

Also, the bolts are generally fine threads so don't cross thread.
