We keep separate accounts.
We both make good money so it’s never been an issue.

We have separate accounts and one joint account. We like to spend money one what we want without worrying, but also both know the other isn't going to be a total dumbass with money

If you are in Louisiana: you only think your accounts are "separate". Separate accounts are a bit senseless if it comes down to legal matters. When it comes down to the law for a married couple in determining who actually "owns" the money, in the state of Louisiana it really doesn't matter whose name is on the account, it's all community property and by law, both accounts are owned by both spouses. If a couple splits, everything that was bought by money spent from separate accounts is legally "owned" by BOTH spouses.

Referring to my above post above and those saying "her car" or "my car"... concerning the law in matters of "separate" checking accounts, same goes for "separate cars" that one spouse may have paid for out their own account...it does't matter. The car is still owned equally by the other spouse even if they paid for it with their "own money". There is no "my own money" if you are married. It doesn't matter whose name is on the title.

Louisiana doesn't recognize separate property for money earned/assets acquired before the marriage or by inheritance during the marriage?
