So why provoke the guy? I don’t get it.

Because title is in the OP’s name.
But won’t the title company pay the lien at closing? They will take the money out of the relo company’s proceeds. I guess this can become a problem for the OP if the house sits on the market for a long time.

If the lien is only for $10, send him a box with 200 nickels and a note saying by the time of next year’s dues I’ll be out of your shitty neighborhood.

Holy hell man. Just pay it.

Why would the title company pay it?
Look, it’s a de minimis amount, so I agree it’s no big deal, but the HOA douche can make closing difficult. Who knows what legal fees and other bullshite he tries to throw in there.

They will pay it out of the proceeds of the sale. Title company is insuring the title so they can’t risk the possibility of litigation.

The 10 bucks will get paid....it's the bullshite legal fees that I'm worried about

If I have a lien filed for 1000 bucks in legal fees I might fly to Indiana and kick this guy straight in the dick

The title company would likely insist that it be paid before insuring, no? Again, for a de minimis amount, they may not care, but why risk it?

Unfortunately, you pissed off a douche when he was technically in the right.

Title company will contact the HOA for any balances dues. They will get a payoff if money is owed. That money will be taken out of the sellers proceeds and a check will be sent to HOA and the lien, if there is one, will be cancelled by the title company. It doesn’t matter the amount, a title company will always pay HOA dues/liens/judgments, etc., i.e. anything that could cloud the title.

Why don’t you just man up and pay the outstanding dues/fees. Tell POA douche it was all a misunderstanding resulting from relocation package. You’re life will have much less stress than dealing with the Nazi.
Pay and move on.
Pay and move on.

Good luck selling a house with an HOA lien on it

Are there others on the HOA board that you could deal with?
A simple “hey guys, I’m not trying to be trouble- this is the situation... can we please work together instead of ending up in court and risking either of us getting stuck with a fat legal bill?” might go a long way with the board instead of this over eager jerk.
Especially if you can show the relo company is actually paying and doing upkeep as needed.

It is your inability to look past little things like this is going to keep you back. I hope your company hears nothing of this silliness.
Pathetic.

Guy is going to charge like $800 bucks in legal fees. Plus the cost of recording the lien. This thing could go on for a year or more. How are you going to sell the house then? OP you are going to end up getting screwed in this thing if you can't make it go away.

It’s shite like this that convinced me to move out in the country and not have an HOA.

Not my problem...they bought the house from me
