He said the VP asked the question at a work Christmas party. People are more relaxed and social. Not a time for an exercise or "gotcha"

Mega millions was 1.2 billion. Winning "the" lottery absolutely is frick you money.

Why do people make disparaging comments against their employer to other employees?

At our work Christmas party last month, our VP asked us what we would do if we "won the lottery?"

8-10 people said "Oh I would quick immediately" or "stop working"
one person even answered "I would ghost this job"

He took his notes,

When everyone was done, he said the lottery amount was $500 and he took notes on who said what..

Anyone with any sort of intellect at all would ask how much did I win. Just assuming "winning the lottery" would mean having the financial freedom to retire is indicative of a couple of things, neither particularly promising. The first is the respondent is making so little money that any winning would provide them with the freedom to retire....that is seriously fricked up and the VP ought to be ashamed of being involved with that level of exploitation. The other option is that the respondent doesn't really know what "the lottery" is. Not a bad thing but indicative of an idiot who is probably not in any position to be doing much of anything to earn a living.

If, however, the VP asked what they would do if they were suddenly financially independent and got pissed when they said that would act like a normal, sane person the VP has some serious issues. If the VP "won the lottery" and was suddenly financially independent but continued to be the VP the VP is an idiot and anyone working for them should consider finding another gig....

I am not an attorney but feel like you sometimes the termination process needs to be more open and transparent and not pull documented transgressions that may have happened weeks or years ago as a reason to fire you just because they don’t want you any more today or are looking to get rid of you because you make too much today and they want some one younger and less expensive in the role.

There is an attorney that pops up on my Facebook feed where the his goal in these types of cases in the 49 at will states is to get the HR and company representatives to get caught lying or misrepresenting the facts of your termination. Just like you may have made a mistake, HR and bosses make mistakes too that is what his job as an attorney is to shine the light on their incompetence.

One thing that I will say is that limited unemployment should be available to long employees fired for cause based in the number of years worked. You and your employer paid for those benefits. It shouldn’t be a white collar HR pencil pusher making the decision on unemployment benefits, or the fact that the company doesn’t want to pay more for unemployment insurance so they make it seem you were fired for cause. While on the hand a company can close up shop and every employee is now eligible for unemployment. And the company is not taxed for the employees that are now unemployed.

Your story might be 100 % factual, but it does not matter.

Take your skillsets somewhere else. Move on.

Retaliation and discrimination are basically the only grounds for any kind of legal action for dismissal of employment, outside of breach of contract. And, of course, retaliation has to stem from a rightful act on your part. At will employment stacks the deck on one side when it comes to things like this, and the employers know it and use it when they want to.

You do not have a case unless you can prove retaliation or discrimination.

Now, got to the auto parts store and get a valve stem tool and take the valve stems out of her tires while she's at work like a real man.

"disparaging comments" against the company (which ultimately did me in)

To make matters worse I asked if I could work for this company at an alternative location and it turns out they also blacklisted me. I found that curious as disparaging comments don't tend to get you blacklisted from an entire company

You did this to yourself. Welcome to the conseqeunces of your own actions.

Georgia is an at-will state. You can be canned for any reason. Suck it up and watch your mouth next time.

Nah. The clinic director sounds like a sky screaming DEI hire

She might be but both can be true.

I’ve worked with plenty of those types and none have ever wanted to get me fired. If you’re not an arse and stay in your lane, people generally leave you alone.

To be fair, our VP did NOT come up with this idea. I could just tell he was blown away by the comments.

Of course it is naive to think people would not quit their jobs if they won the lottery. It is one thing to think it, another to say it.
