I would definitely contact a lawyer in that area and get some advice.

To add to my original post, ask them via email what kind of condition the bike is in. Does it run? Is is banged up? Ask for pictures.

They’ll likely say it’s in great condition to laud themselves and make it seem as though they deserve some payment.

But really you’re getting evidence so that when you threaten them with the police if they damage it in anyway you’ve got them dead to rights there as well for destruction of property.

Near Starkville.

ETA: if anyone could recommend a lawyer in the area, I would appreciate it

This is where I’m at now. This was years ago, I didn’t really care about the money until she wanted to play games like this. What I offered was definitely “more than fair to all parties.” And she actually already sent pictures of the bike, it’s in near perfect condition now.

The email I received when I asked to see the invoice. How can someone be this out of touch?

Insurance representative is asking you to personally compensate her for connecting the dots?

Sounds shady AF. Have you reported her to the insurance provider? Is she really an agent? This sounds like a scam.

Yeah I thought this was really strange too. She didn’t mention she worked for an insurance company, she 100% made it seem like she worked for the wrecker company. The email domain she sent from goes to an insurance firm in that area and her LinkedIn says she is an account manager for the firm.

Bro she's trying to extort you

Lawyers Near Starkville

I would first establish that the lawyer doesn't know the wrecker company and repair shop/insurance lady

Acting like they're doing you a favor by not charging you for finding your stolen bike I'd get my bike and tell them to get fricked

That's great, and you have evidence of what condition it is in currently. I would contact a lawyer you know (in any state) and talk to them, and then maybe see if you can use your lawyer buddy to help you find one in MS. Then I'd try to go get the bike.

And this:

..is correct. This definitely seems shady as frick, and I would definitely try to cause lots of trouble for them if they don't comply. But I am petty as frick sometimes though.

Also, no matter what, if you do get your bike back, I would take it to a local mechanic and make sure that everything is good with it. You don't want them to have done something to it internally that could frick with you (or worse, be dangerous if you drive it).

As Pvt Hudson indicated, do not let them know you are coming to get it. Show up with a letter from the attorney’s office or have it with you paired with the local police.

Get the bike, tip the policeman with lunch, take bike home.

Best advice in this thread. Get in your car and show up over there with a trailer ASAP. If they don’t give you the bike immediately, call the police.

I’d show up with the cops if that is possible. Hit the police station up on the way in, explain it all and show proof you’re the owner and it was stolen property in the first place. Hopefully the deputy isn’t friends or family of shop owner, lol. Then roll up with your trailer, get YOUR bike back, and get the hell outta dodge.

These folks look to be making a buck off you, so the quicker you act the better. Storage, “convenience” fees, the works.

I actually was going to give them a heads up I’m coming to get it so I’m glad you and other pointed this out. I’ve already got somebody who will buy it from me and is willing to pick up. I’m going to have to call the local police and see if someone is able to retrieve it on my behalf but I’ve got a bad feeling I’m about to be driving 800 miles to get it.

Not exactly the same but had a truck basically firebombed and taken into possession of local sheriff department salvage yard.

Evidence. They kept it well after insurance settled up. Wanted to charge me $4k for “storage “ fees lol. SMH

There's an easy reply to this IF the insurance company totaled the vehicle.

"Sorry, I don't own the truck. The insurance company does."

Did your insurance company pay you for the motorcycle already?
