Im very attached to my dogs. Lost one a couple years ago and it was tough. Even with our other dog still there, the house just seemed so emtpy without him and our other dog just lost alot of energy with his brother being gone. Almost a year later we finally got another dog and our older dog is full of energy now. He's pushing 13 yrs old and still plays with our 2 yr. old lab. He's slowing down but he's still going strong.

Biglego, Sorry to hear about your little girl, you however, have a lot to learn. I know that to you, "it's just a dog" but obviously the OP is mourning the loss of his pet. Learn so have compassion for others, you'll be happier.
God bless,
Ed

She was febrile, just tired and not her usual self. I contacted the urgent care centers around my house and they scheduled me for an appointment at 7:30 this morning.

Went to the 24hr one in harahan told me that it'll probably be better if I come back in the morning when the head vet is there and that she'll be okay.

Stayed up all night checking up on her every hour til 4 o clock. I ended up knocking out believing she'd be okay, got worse, and now I'm here.

Thanks for the support OT. I never had a pet before, was just curious what was the norm

Lost mine in January. First few weeks were pretty tough, especially for my wife. It was her first pet and I adopted her as a puppy right before I started dating my now wife. Our dog was always part of our relationship so it was really hard on both of us when she was suddenly gone one day. It gets better but still miss my pup a lot.

Sorry buddy. Truly am.

Get a puppy soon though. They are one of the best things on this planet.

A 32# weenie dog? We had one that weighed maybe 15-20 and he was overweight.

And my dog died over a year ago. I still get upset. I had him 10 years. People keep telling me to get a new dog, but I can't.

I think I am still moping and it has been about ten years. When I got to spend my last few moments with him he was so weak he couldn't even get up. When it was time to leave he jumped up and started barking at me. It was tough to walk away from him and still tough to think about.

I may sound like an idiot, but I just keep running this guilt trip in my head with saying I should have just kept her at the 24hr pet ER.

Still miss our Samoyed we had growing up. It would pull us around in the radio flyer wagon. Too bad sled dogs only know one speed. And we usually got hurt. It's hard to deal with a pet passes.

With any pet/human, you never forget. We still bring up and compare ours to the ones living. It's difficult when they live with you and become part of your daily process; a sense of fulfillment is now absent. I personally struggled for weeks. It's worse when they leave unexpectedly, but it's life I guess. Get another pet, always helps

At some point in the day I openly sobbed for two weeks. I still mourn and it's been almost five months. We got a new puppy after two months and that took some sting away. If you do this be prepared to understand you are not replacing and a puppy is a puppy not a formed personality.

lost our golden retriever about a month ago - first week was tough. In the past 3 weeks I've called her name atleast once or twice when I get home.
looks like we have found a female Chesapeake bay retriever this weekend.
fwiw we have lost 3 golden retriever's in the past 14 years to cancer - that's tough.

Haven't had one pass yet. Our golden is getting old though. She's deaf and her sight seems to be fading as well. :(

Condolences.

My dog has only been gone 2 1/2 years, but I still miss her. took a year and a half before I stopped throwing french fries on the floor for her to eat.
