Not a bad way to go out. He lived a long life for a free climber

After the fatal descent, Jacobson told Outside magazine the pair were simul-rappeling -- a climbing technique where they use their bodies to counteract the rope when they heard it "pop." "We started rapping," Jacobson said. "I was a bit above him. I was on the left. He was on the right. Then all of a sudden, I felt a pop, and we started dropping."
Maybe they should have waited till after they were safe and on the ground before they decide to spit a fresh 16.
I’m a speed climber on my way to the top
Yelling, “look out below” as I begin to drop

Sounds like he wasn't free climbing. I'm not sure what they're talking about but a rope is mentioned.
Read the article. They were “simu rappelling” which is two guys rappell descending on a single rope. Rope failed and they both fell. I had never heard of this and I have Rope Rescue and other climbing training. After reading about the technique, there is no fricking way I would do it.

I did read the article. And I don't know what simu-rappelling is, as I said. Thanks for explaining it though. Hard pass for me.

LoL. I wasn’t telling you to “read” the article. I was saying that I “read” the article. Damn Engrish language.

I'll see myself out...

Ironic that this very thing is what people like this live for. “It’s a rush man, it makes you feel so connected, so alive.”
Welp. Now I feel sort of like Johnny Utah watching bodie paddle into the storm of the century.
He’s not coming back.

Is Alex still free solo'ing? Watching the movie I figured he'd settle down with that OT 6 and pop out a few kids while taking it easier.

The fall didn't kill him. The sudden stop at the end did.

Have you seen his busted face? Combine that with him being a free climber, and she’s more like an OT 11/10 for him.

Yep, sooner or later gravity will be victorious.

Based on the math, he had about 7 seconds from the fall to the landing.....that’s enough time to ask his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into his heart.

And one more reason not to go to Mexico lol

Surprised you haven't heard of it.
I never want someone else on my rope.
Eta....tried it once on snow in a safe setting. No thanks. Handing out trust like that is not my thing.

and then don't tie a big ole knot at the bottom of the rope to stop your downward trajectory?
It wouldn't have stopped anything.
