The car of course. It's his job to merge

I think everyone agrees on that.

The trucker decided not to, so I hope his half-witted arse is fired.

Do you honestly think the guy intentionally wrecked that car? I think he assumed the car was speeding up to merge in, so I'm sure he was looking to his left at that point. It's asinine to believe a CDL holder while on the job would intentionally wreck someone.

hat said, once the truck saw he was going to hit him, he should've let him over. He does have a duty to his employer (and just straight-up common sense) to simply avoid a wreck if possible.

The truck was already going 62 MPH in the video. And he is probably looking more to the traffic he's merging into on his left instead of thinking about a car on his right. I'm betting his attention was on what the red SUV's intentions were than anything else. Also, you've got to take into account that camera is sitting dead center up around where a rear view mirror would be so it's got a bit of a different perspective than the driver. The camera's view is higher and more forward than his own. There's a good chance from his point of view, the car was in his blind spot.

Oh my, a CDL. That means he is a professional driver, correct?

Well, I sure would expect a professional driver to take his foot off the accelerator to avoid tearing up my truck and not be involved in any easily avoidable wreck while on the job.

And good grief, he stops looking ahead, so he can merge left. Seriously?

He assumes the idiot to his right is suddenly going to become a better driver?

Ummm... there is just one and someone has already confirmed that it isn't a probably... the sign is there.

I knew the sign was there but I was just being a smartass.

I don't think so. The truck could've easily slowed down to avoid the wreck

Have you driven a big rig? They are not near as agile as people assume. If he were, which seems very likely, in the process of shifting and accelerating up to the speed of the highway, it would be a pain in the arse to slow down and start over. It makes much more sense to maintain a safe speed and let the car pass. Yes he could have braked aggressively and avoided it, but he had no responsibility to do so.

Car is clearly in front of the truck when the last dashed lines disappear and they are both in a legal single lane, despite its width. Therefore the black car clearly had the right of way when being passed by the 18 wheeler.
The sign says to merge left, I would think it's on the person in the right lane to safely merge left, which the car did not.

The truck was already left, he did what he needed to do per the sign.

You are saying black was in his blind spot?

It was a dick move by the truck driver, but he had the right of way no doubt.

I think it's very possible. Like I said, that camera is just meant to show what's going on in front of the truck. It's not meant to give his perspective. It's sitting center while he's over on the left. It's also sitting more forward than him. In addition to this, like I said above. This trucker would have been looking to his left mirror as he merges into traffic and especially been paying attention to the red SUV that was right next to him at that time.

Yes, to merge left you have to look left and temporarily take your eyes off of what's directly in front of you or to your right, unless of course you're this guy:

Here is my "SCENARIO" in it's entirety:
"The car is at fault... just before the video starts there is probably a sign that says "RIGHT LANE ENDS MERGE LEFT"... The car did not heed this caution sign and tried to squeeze in. Bravo to the trucker for not letting the idiot in or causing an accident behind him from braking"

The part about the cell phone was just a funny at the end... I even separated it with spacing not to confuse the slow people... use your brain next time when you read

ETA: Jeez, you people are starting to rub off on me... now I'm being a dickhead

If there was only some way for us to find out if there was a sign, and what this sign may have said...

Well when anyone assumes the black they can't be held responsible for any past transgressions. And then they get to honorably spend the rest of their lives defending The Wall.

Yea sign says lane ends merge left

i don't know area, but are people saying both right lanes merge left so the truck was about to merge in another 250 feet? If so, then I understand the truck trying to gauge timing to get into the left as he has a semi. The car is at fault anyway, but that's a crappy intersection

the directive is to merge, the truck pulled ahead to pass in a merge

How do you gather that from the short clip? Looks to me like the black car tried to outrun the truck on an on ramp and lost. The truck had the ROW and had no obligation to allow the black car to merge.
