UPDATE: Just looked in the back seat window and someone came by here last night apparently because the black vest with the name has been flipped upside down and I don't see the radio or badge. About to call the BRPD right now.

Was the car unlocked initially?

I don't know why, but I have a vested interest in knowing the outcome of something that's almost 1,000 miles away and has absolutely zero impact on me.

So the person who was driving the car is presumably still alive then.

That appears to be a pretty small parking lot at your work, so yeah, super weird that that car would be parked there for multiple days.

There isn’t much leverage to force the owner of the vehicle or off duty cop to explain why his vehicle is in Baton Rouge.

Other than calling his department to obtain a contact number for him and calling him to inquire about why his vehicle is parked here, all of which he could refuse to answer, you are limited in options to solve your curiosity.

Technically, the responding Officer could issue a parking citation for the vehicle being parked on private property without approval or have the property owner tow the vehicle (at the property owners expense), but those options don’t really seem worth the time or effort.

People do weird things everyday. Absent more information, we may never know why this car is parked in Baton Rouge.

Maybe he should write a polite note explaining how intensely curious he is of the situation, and to give him some kind of closure. It doesn't have to be a lot, nothing incriminating, but just some kind of explanation to satisfy him. Tell him that a lot of other anonymous people have also been brought into the fold, and are equally eager to come to a resolution. Not trying to get him in trouble, or disrupt his life, but he owes it to him for creating such a scenario.

Tape the note to his window, signed Tigerbutt.

Sorry to break the news. BRPD did show up and the officer said they did make contact with the owner of the car. The owner supposedly has arranged to have their car towed today as they did have car trouble. They came by last night to retrieve their badge and radio out of the backseat which explains the missing items this morning.

Could have turned into an interesting event but as of now appears to be a broken down personal vehicle by a member of the McComb police dept being in Baton Rouge.

It’s McComb, so they probably take whatever they can get, but most police departments would be pissed to learn their equipment was sitting in plain view in the backseat of a car far from the officer’s jurisdiction.

That’s a pretty good cover story.
