That sounds pretty sweet now when your presumably active and in relatively good health. At some point you and/or your spouse will likely be ill or disabled. I'd consider things like proximity to medical care, how you'll evacuate for storms, etc.

Fla effective property tax rate is approx. 0.8% of the property value.

Somewhere on the west coast on a beach. Weather is perfect year round.

are you only considering coastal?
In your retirement, do you want to deal with tourists and hurricanes every year? I know that either I or my FIL are always headed to help people put up plywood in Florida...
I am not much of a "mountain man," but getting a cabin on a creek in north Georgia when all is said and done could be pretty awesome. Quiet, good climate, no bullshite, more likely to have politics you align with, cool enough for kids and grandkids to want to visit. I'd take up trout fishing and brew my own beer, maybe get some bees and sell local honey in town...

Costa del Sol, Spain. Cost of living is 40% less than in the US and weekend trips to explore Europe are easy.
Real estate is cheaper and the mortgage rate is between 2.2 and 4% right now.

Seems romantic, but I don't want to learn languages to exist, and I'd fear I'd rarely or never see my kids or grandkids. Is this your plan?
To each their own.

Yes, your budget.

My wife is fluent in Spanish and most there speak English anyway.
My plan is to split time between Spain and the US.

I visited some friends who recently retired and moved to Tellico Village, which is about an hour away from Knoxville in Tennessee. Beautiful place to retire IMO.

I'm looking to get a bigger travel trailer and just go where I want depending on weather. There's an awesome RV resort that I sometimes go to on weekends about an hour east of Dallas. Two pools, lazy river, swim-up bar, bar and grill, pool tables, arcade, and a store. You can live there full-time for $695/month and that includes electricity, water, sewer, trash, and internet.

Near family (kids, grandkids). Need good medical care. Near sources of support and help.

I'm about 4 years out and have been doing a ton of reserach on it. There's a reason other than weather why so many northerners retire to the southern states.
And there's a reason the unofficial motto of South Carolina is #Go Back To Ohio.

No matter what you choose , it all gets routine.

Be prepared to allocate extra money for home insurance premiums if moving to a coastal area.

I occasionally contemplate moving from BR, but this is where all my friends are. Do I discard my best friends to live somewhere else, or do I just travel to go to other locations for a reprieve from BR?

All that hurricane prep and evacuation will keep you young.
