Currently majoring in Emergency Management and will pursue a Master's in the program. I was looking at getting my OSHA 10 hours general industry and wondering if it would be worth my time getting this training? What about HAZWOPER?

Because 30 is becoming the new standard required for a lot of jobs.

OSHA 10 is basically intro to “general indust/construction” work.

OSHA 30 goes into risk management, safety systems, legal stuff, etc etc.

The class is not long at all. You can even do it online now.

If your job/school pays for it, I would look into either the COSS or CSST cert.

Hate to say this but, yes. It is going to be difficult to get a job in Emergency Management. Would love to work for FEMA, but those jobs in Baton Rouge are few are far between, and I'd like to stand out. 10-15 year goal is to become director of GOHSEP in EBR or Ascension.

Any company worth it’s salt will send you and pay for the proper training. You’re more than likely just pissing away money. I don’t see that being a make or break on a resume.

Is there something tying you down to Baton Rouge?

It seems like you'd want to move to Dallas (Denton) or Atlanta if you want to get into FEMA but stay in the region.

Yes, the wife is the bread winner currently and unless something changes in her job, we are here for the time being. However, she does work in big Pharma, and most of her job offers have been in the North East. I'm from there and have no desire to move back, the wife, (from here) also refuses to move to the north east

I hope yall can figure something out. It'd be unfortunate for your career to go nowhere simply because you're stuck where you are.
