quote:

Oscar Pistorius teetered on his stumps in a packed court room today in a desperate last bid to convince the judge he was too vulnerable to have killed his girlfriend intentionally. The athlete, known as the Blade Runner, looked humiliated when he was asked to remove his prosthetic limbs during the televised hearing which will decide his murder sentence. There was an awkward moment when Barry Steenkamp was forced to stand to make way for his daughter's killer as he left the dock for the dramatic demonstration. His T-shirt wet with sweat and his red eyes filled with tears, Pistorius paused at the side of the court to remove his prosthetic limbs in the full view of the packed court. The spectacle of the one-time sporting superstar's demonstration across the court room prompted a number of family members, fans and members of the public to break down in tears.

That dude executed his GF but somehow still has a chance to skate??

ETA: From Wiki- Pistorius was later found guilty of culpable homicide at his trial the following year,[7] was given five years in jail and served a one-year prison sentence. On 3 December 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa overturned the conviction for culpable homicide and substituted one of murder, a sentence which carries a minimum period of 15 years in prison in South Africa. Pistorius will be sentenced when the court reconvenes in mid-June 2016.

15 years for murder??

Just a friendly reminder. Be glad you live in the US. As much as our justice system is flawed, its the best model we have on this planet.

Wanna know why? That's Barry Steenkamp, the father of the woman he killed

Pistorius was born with fibular hemimelia (congenital absence of the fibula) in both legs. When he was 11 months old, his legs were amputated halfway between his knees and ankles.

Not sure why having a problem in walking has anything to do with him holding a gun & firing multiple shots into the bathroom?

You dont see how that shows how fearful he could have been? He did it in hopes of convincing the jury he lives in a heightened state of fear due to not having the same defense capabilities as the rest of us.

It may not work, but it is a solid strategy

That and anybody who is white and has money in South Africa lives in a secured compound with armed guards, which was also part of his defense.

Some countries have maximum sentences that are like only 20 years. The guy who killed all those campers in Norway only got 26 years, and just won a $100,000 case against the government for keeping him in solitary confinement too long. Keep in mind he murdered like 76 people.

26 years.

If you live in a house with more than one person, you have to make sure they are not the person in the bathroom you blindly shoot because you heard a noise. I'm sorry. His defense has no merit.

The whole story is strange.

Well, if you believe him, it takes the specific intent out of the crime, at least in Louisiana. Still makes it homicide (manslaughter), but from a moral culpability, as a society we treat 1 crime (manslaughter) as a lesser evil than the other (murder).

However, I tend to agree with you overall. When a domestic partner is killed in an accidental shooting, there are lots of questions that have to be answered. Going back a few months, musician Randy Meisner (Poco and The Eagles) had an incident in his home. A strange story that his wife shot herself, accidentally, while moving a rifle inside a case. It would be tough to accept, at face value, but internal surveillance footage apparently confirms Meisner's account and that she did, in fact, accidentally kill herself.

Without similarly convincing proof in the Pistorius case, I'm afraid I've concluded he either intentionally killed her (murder) or is criminally liable for her death (manslaughter), based almost solely on his own admissions regarding the facts and circumstances surrounding her death.

On the OJ special last night, it was shown a Korean store owner in Los Angeles shot and killed a young black girl in the back in her store ,got convicted for murder and was only sentenced to community service.
