In her 2020 budget proposal, Cantrell asked the City Council to dedicate $4 million to Morrell's office, essentially bringing it back to its 2018 funding level after a cut in 2019. The council gave Morrell that slight increase in funding.

But on Friday he denounced the budget as illegitimate and said he should have been given his entire $4.6 million request. Morrell said he had met with city officials eight times to try to come to a solution.

Sounds like he’s doing it to get attention more than anything

As an advocate for smaller government I’m not sure if this makes NOLA a better city or a shittier one

The clerk of criminal court is not the assessor.

The biggest issue will be the inability of anyone to post bail.

Erroll got his money.

Which that office could do with about 5 less people. There are two people sitting at the recpetion desk. Appears wasteful.

Yep.

And to the OP, the office didn't run out of money, he is grandstanding to make a point.

He is also doing it at a time knowing that for the past three weeks the courts have been basically been shut down for the holidays, making the next few weeks extremely busy. Tons of cases set for trial, motions, etc.

Damn I hope this doesn’t lead to delays in the court system there.

Sounds like they should just do away with bail. It’s the just thing to do anyway as bail is racist.
