Ordered our last one online, picked out everything and paid a deposit through their website. It was shipped to the dealer.

How long is long? The two trucks I special ordered, both took six weeks before the dealer received them.

I did it with no problems. wanted a new model (2000ish) ford extended cab with a short bed on it. special order only.
they would only do it with the 5.4 v8 in it.

One of my great uncles did the BMW European delivery deal a number of years back. He said that his experience was pretty smooth.

However, I've heard mixed reviews on the whole buying from the factory deal.

It was two months without word on when I could expect delivery. I believe it was around 6 weeks as well I was told.

all that shite and you want cloth seats?

I would love leather but you have to get the Laramie package to get it which adds about $5000 that I don't want to spend

We special ordered so we would t be stuck with all of the option packages that vehicles are sent to the dealer with. If they give you $3 off a vehicle with $12 of options you don't want are you really saving money? We also got a color combination that wouldn't have been sent to the dealer either, and different wheels (a midrange option 19s vs the 20s on the loaded models). I think it makes sense if you know what you want.

I am interested in if the dealers will still offer dealer cash and incentives if I order custom

I just ordered one through Mercedes and they gave me about $5500 off MSRP. Part of that was a deal they have through AMEX Platinum, and the other part of it was for TrueCare. They obviously won’t tell you about these things unless you do your research and ask about it. They were straightforward though.

It also helped that I spoke with 3 different dealers and asked what they could offer. And each of the dealers knew I was talking to other dealers and serious about ordering a car.

Any dealer will do a factory order for you, it is actually cheaper for them to do it. Factory ordered cars will not sit on the lot, so it works out great for them.

i purchased a car in December, but before doing so, i inquired with 2 different manufacturers about having a car special ordered.

I had always heard that you dont get a discount when placing an order, and that was 100% wrong (at least in regard to the 2 different manufacturers i looked at). i learned that dealerships have a specific allotment of different models coming to them throughout the year, so when you order a car, they just look in the database for the next car that's in their allotment, and if it hasnt been produced yet, they put in the specs you want. So, it's a car that would end up on their lot anyway, but by customizing it for you, they've guaranteed a sale, and the car doesnt take up space on the lot.

that said, if they have a car on their lot that's been there for a while and they absolutely need to move, that's where you get the best deal.

Do you know anyone at the plant?

It helps, you can actually have the person follow it down the line, and make sure it's 100% perfect. Sometimes shite gets switched in the computers, having some one there makes sure it doesn't.

Mom ordered a mini van, her husband followed it to paint, and they had it as a different color, he stopped line, got supervisor, they changed shite in computers and it came out correct color. When it was in trim, computer had it with cheap interior, which is not what she ordered, he stopped it and made sure shite was right, pulling it off the line.

When my father ordered his Cherokee, we knew some one at the plant and they babysat it all the way till it left the factory lot.

Stuff like that can happen but it’s not a legitimate concern when ordering vehicles, not to the extent that you need to know someone at the plant to follow the process. That’s extreme to say the least.

Let's also add, that when my Moms mini van was going thru paint, some dick head thought it was a supervisors vehicle, because of all the attention, and he scratched it on passengers side door.

So it had to go to repair, get sanded and spot painted.

Her Husband was pissed, but no video, so no proof of who did it.

True. This is where do you want the car you want or to save more money.

Using the affiliate program is great and simple and you do get 1% under invoice (not MSRP) without doing any negotiating and it is good for cars on the lot or a factory order from any Dodge dealer in the country. If the dealer does not accept it, just inform them you will let FCA know.

Finding a volume dealer is better though. My last Jeep I got 5% under invoice on a factory order. No negotiating really, they try to sell as many as possible to get kickbacks from FCA.

I did, took way longer than they originally said, but the put me in a loaner once it was past the date it was originally supposed to arrive. I guess it got hung up on a ship somewhere.

Also it had 3 miles on it. So basically just them testing it after it leaves factory. Didnt have a car that a bunch of fat asses test drove and farted in.

And the main thing, I got the exact color with the exact options I wanted, no dealerships nearby had the combination I wanted. I still got the cash incentive but they wouldnt budge anymore on the price. Worth it imo though.

Yeah, you can get some nice deals that way. I order my cars because I'm willing to wait for exactly what I want. However, the last car I bought was off of a lot. When the salesman and I sat down to work out the order and the details, he ran my options list through the manufacturer's inventory database and there was exactly one car in the country that met all my specs, it was 300 miles away, and it had been on it's dealership's lot for six months.

The salesman I worked with took his cut for putting together a motivated buyer with a motivated seller and I ended up with the exact car I wanted in three days and for MANY thousands of dollars less than I'd expected to pay.

I wish that would happen more often.
