OPSO: Man died from injuries sustained in fight with girlfriend

A West Monroe man died Friday morning following a fight on Candy Queen Lane.
According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, the deceased has been identified as Michael Whitfield. An investigation into his death started in the early morning hours Friday in Candy Cane Lane's 100 block.
Investigators determined a fight took place between Whitfield and his long-time live-in girlfriend. Whitfield sustained injuries that led to his death.
Thegirlfriend was transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries received during the altercation. She was interviewed by investigators and released.
Whitfield has a 2018 conviction for third offense domestic abuse battery and was on parole at the time of his death.
As of Friday, no charges have been filed in connection with the case. Whitfield's body is being sent for an autopsy.
