Do you have school-aged kids?
The quality of the Public schools in the three coastal counties vary dramatically from one area to another.
Put another way: there’s a decent number of non-Catholic students at Catholic schools there.
Also, there’s another word with regard to real estate there along with “location” that you must always pay attention to, that word is “elevation”.
Good luck on your search, there are certainly worse places to live.

There are plenty of places from BSL out to Gautier that have very nice areas. Gulfport is mainly lower income, but even here there are awesome locations for a good value. Without much to go on besides boat parking, I did a quick search on my MLS and there are a handful of really good homes in NW Biloxi along the Biloxi River currently for sale that you might really like.
Good luck on your search. I don't think you would regret moving out this way.

Just make plans each year to leave town for spring break.

Move to Laurel
Immediately contact Ben and Erin Napier from Home Town. They'll help you find a cheap arse house and remodel it for a decent budget in a great deal.

That's 1 1/2 hours from the coast.....
ETA; my buddy has a place in huge development with houses/camps in Bay St Louis. It's a pretty cool setup on a canal that leads to the Jourdan river. You can head south to the barrier islands for a day on the beach or to fish the Biloxi Marsh or Chandeleur Islands in LA even. Go north on the Jourdan and you can fish freshwater species. Lots of summertime recreation out the there riding jet skis and tubing.

Hurley has fine schools I guess but man I wouldn’t want to live there.
BSL and OS are nice; all our friends who live in BSL want to move to pass Christian so you might want to check that area out too

I like ocean springs. Very walkable. Nicely kept downtown. It and BSL have similar beaches.
Both are nice over Gp or Biloxi. While being right outside respectively.

Move out of Louisiana. That's all I got.

Would not recommend Gulfport.
Echo this. Went there for work a few years ago. Vividly remember a local (male) with no shirt bringing his pit bull into the Vietnamese owned Cajun place getting escorted out by the owner.

Pass Christian if you have kids. Top public schools in the area.

Important point for OP to remember: The 43/603 bridge is very low. Can't get a boat under it.
So he'll want to make sure he has a clear path to the Gulf if he gets a place on a canal or river.

Casino
Easy trip to LSU for games

Both Gulfport and Biloxi have some outstanding places to eat that are locally owned.

I lived in Pass Christian (the Pass) for 5 years. I absolutely loved it there. We lived in Timber Ridge subdivision. We were on a bayou that took us directly to the bay. Our boat was on a lift and we could fish, shrimp and crab off of our pier.
Call Carl LaRosa at (228) 669-4018. He was our agent and also lives in Timber Ridge.

The beach is fine,
Beach is man-made and the water is like a murky river, not your usual looking gulf water you see east of Mobile Bay.
Was stationed in Biloxi for 5 years. Owned a house in Woolmarket.
