I've yet to see someone quantify what a "real truck" means.

I've always had the impression that outside the US pickup trucks are used a lot differently. Anyone owning a truck is using the capabilities day in and day out. No one is commuting to a desk job in one.

True. AFAIK the Ridgeline is a US/Canada only product because the US and Canada are generally the only countries where P/Us are used as daily drivers by a significant portion of the population. The trades in other countries tend to use either vans or if needed "real trucks" ie medium duty or higher.

My post that mentioned US drivers was not restricted to trucks, the US is a car culture society. While countries like the US, UK, Japan, UAE, et al are very vehicle oriented a ton of first-world countries just don't care as much about what they drive as long as it meets their needs. France, Spain, and the (cultural) Scandanavian countries for example tend to be much more practical about their vehicles.

For me personally I only "need" an actual truck (something my old SUV with or without a trailer can't cover) maybe once every 2 years and like a boat I think it is better to have friends with one than actually own one.

The Ridgeline is a good vehicle. It is NOT a truck however.

Had one . Loved it. I live in the country across from a single lane bridge. Waste management won’t service. Have to pack it out once a week. Smooth ride great mileage, easy to park.

...Ridgelines are a unibody rather than full-frame construction would be what I guess they are saying. It is of unibody construction like most cars, vans & small SUV's now

It's a pretty reliable unibody truck-shaped vehicle designed for lesbians and guys with neckbeards.

If it does the job for you and you don't care about questions regarding your manliness, get it.

TOYOTA

This.

Just go with a Tacoma. They have all the capabilities of a Ridgeline plus more, look a hell of a lot better, are known to be more reliable, have a much higher resale value even a decade down the road, and aren't some giant F250 gas/diesel guzzler.

The Tacoma is the best all around truck for someone that doesn't do any "heavy hauling" but still needs a truck every so often. Plus they're still capable enough to haul some 4wheelers or a camper

It’s a good pickup that satisfies the needs of 90% of pickup owners.

I would stop short or calling it a truck though. It’s a pickup. But it’s not a truck.

Other than payload capacity. Important for truck buyers.

And the Tacoma is miserable on long trips if you are over 6’ tall.

I’ve owned full sized Fords, Chevys, and Nissans. None of them made my dick bigger, nor did they increase my testosterone. The pickup that I own is not tied in any way to me being a heterosexual man.

I had a 06 double cab taco and 07 Ridgeline. Love the taco. Great truck. And on paper they are similar capabilities. But once you sit in the Ridgeline and taco and drive them around the difference is quite drastic. Road manners, interior room, and comfort. Ridgeline doesn't need a tonneau cover to haul luggage and keep the luggage dry. Ridgeline is much more comfortable being used on long trips.

I do think the Tacoma's drivetrain is more robust and I would trust it towing much more than my Ridgeline.

I’m looking into these now, and there are a lot of positives. The 2021-22 models look a whole lot better, with a redesigned front fascia, wider track, etc. The main advantage of the unibody construction is the interior space and payload capacity. The interior is much larger than other mid sized trucks. You can put a lot of weight in the bed. More than most, if not all mid sized trucks. It tows 5,000 lbs. That is a little low, but enough for a 24ft. bay boat, for instance. All wheel drive is standard, and works very well off road. And lastly, the in-bed truck is capable of holding a surprising large amount of luggage, or anything else for that matter. Needs a modest lift though. Look at J-Sport for those. Maybe 1.75- 2” front and and around 1” for the back.

They seem to be really nice, but front-wheel drive on a pick-up is a deal killer for me.

I thought AWD was optional, like on my wife's Passport.
