I had a Jason mask and a toy machete when I was a kid. I also had a toy Freddy Krueger glove. Your son sounds cool. You should get him the Friday the 13th dvd box set. Kids love blood and guts type stuff. Its fun.

You prefaced your post with whining about the responses you knew you were going to get, which did nothing but invite even more of those types of responses. Welcome to Tigerdroppings.
Also, I'm not sure what you're asking. You ask a lot of questions that could very well be rhetorical:

What is it you're looking for? Validation? You seem very sure of your decision and have strong feelings on the matter. You're the parent. I'm a parent, too, and when I have strong feelings on a parenting decision, the last thing I would do is ask strangers on the internet to validate those feelings.
My advice is to trust your own judgment, and base that judgment on what you know about your own kid.

It's Halloween, let your kid dress up as Jason. Wearing that costume won't turn him into an axe murderer. Your kid though, do what you gotta do.

I guess I am looking for a bit of validation. Yes. My wife is on the fence about it and I really do not like it at all. It seems trashy and low-brow and I was hoping to find some input here. My bad.

Your child is in for a rough life! A Jason costume is the least he has to worry about with a snowflake Dad like you. Holy shite, man. Just because you were picked on as a kid doesn't mean your son has to suffer the same fate. Your son seems cooler than you and you seem to not like that. Just my opinion of course.

Kids are weird, they like stuff they don't know anything about. That doesn't mean they grow up to be weird adults or serial killers.
It's a movie character and the child probably knows it's not real so it's somewhat cool, but he doesn't understand connotations for the real world. That's normal.
If you don't' like it, don't allow it, but be prepared to explain it rather well.
If you're worried he's going to grow up to be a killer, go to therapy immediately. Banning the costume won't stop that progression, only make him take it away from your eyes. So if that's a concern the child needs help now. Doesn't sound like that's the issue.
Probably best to let him enjoy himself and grow out of this, but it wouldn't hurt to just let him know how you feel without an outright veto.
