When capitalism became a “everyone rents everything” model is when people start to look at socialism.

If individuals can’t own anything… is it better for the government or big business to own everything?

I dont believe there is any precedence for this in world history?

Right.

I dont think theres a push toward collectivism for the people who hate renting instead of buying though. Theres the Uber rich like Mr Sam here who want collectivism because it won't apply to him. Theres the piss poor people who want collectivism because they want what they dont have / haven't earned. I think the overwhelming vast majority of people (the middle) dont want to rent everything, and also do not want collectivism. They want 1950's America back.

What do you call fiefdoms in which the vassals never owned their land or housing, but paid the feudal lord a tax (in terms of coin, or harvest, it is irrelevant) just to exist within the confines of the fief? That is directly related to land/home ownership.

Millions of people volunteer annually to never own their phones, preferring to upgrade constantly and be bound to a carrier. They volunteer for it.

I don't know what any of this means, hopefully the lesbian porn on my laptop doesn't come back to bite me though.

Correct

But if it gets harder to own things…

This makes no sense.

The DEMs are chomping at the bit to over-regulate AI companies.

The scenarios Altman is discussing only will come about with little to no regulation.

That cyberpunk technocracy comes via the free market. If DEMS get in power AI is going to be neutered and the bubble likely pops.

It's similar to feudalism

Feudalism wasn’t one way. If your lord didn’t protect you, your lord failed in his duties and you were not bound to respect his rule in that case and that was a fundamental concept that everyone understood.

Here, there is absolutely no repercussion for the lord not doing everything they want

If people stop renting their goods, they suffer.

One principled person in a hundred is not going to be a noticeable dent when most people are struggling to just get by.

They're already laying the groundwork via the media, "ex-AI company employees", and dem congressional members.
Anti-data center candidates from both parties did resoundingly well in state elections yesterday.

Do Republicans show any sign of doing better than Dems on this? Didn't Trump just have all the CEOs sign a self-policing (wink-wink) pledge?

How exactly is "ex-AI company employees" warning about a cyberpunk dystopian future via the media helping the Dems lay the groundwork for a cyberpunk dystopian future?

Isn't the same essentially true of home mortgages? Probably only a small percentage of "homeowners" stay in one place long enough to fully pay off their loans. Only difference is phones are relatively inexpensive (only like a thousand bucks), and mobile carriers provide an associated service (for an additional fee) on top of the financing.

The big servers in data centers probably don’t use the same mem cards my Mac does.

Problem solved.
