Open-plan office: any thoughts or experience with this concept?

My company is moving to a new office building that will have majority open floor space with "work spaces" which are basically low wall cubicles. Only upper management will have offices. They'll have community rooms to hold private meetings/phone calls.
Anyone here have any experience with working in this type of environment? I'm not looking forward to moving from an office to this.

Time for a power move. Tell them you're resigning because your value to the company and your work ethic are worth more than cubicle next to people who are beneath you.
Make sure you use the words "resigning" and make sure you tell them that the other underlings are beneath you. It will show them that you're ready for that corner office.
You'll be snorting blow and paying hookers with client money in no time.

If I'm working in the office full time, frick that.
I've had that at my current gig and my last gig, but at my old one i spent ~40% in the office, my new one ~10%

It isn't all that fun. I have worked in a coupld of those. My current has higher cube walls, but I hated the low wall stuff. Good luck.

We have floors like that. The only thing dividing one cube from the next is a 6" high piece of glass
My cube has walls so it's a little different. But it still sucks. I hate the noise the most. It usually comes from frickers in offices on speakerphone. Always have headphones

It's a corporate trend right now. Goldman Sachs is high on the concept and it's catching on with others. I hate it.

An open floor plan makes sense if you are working in collaboration with people that immediately surround you. It's supposed to make it easier to communicate.
But if that's not needed, then all it does is remove privacy from employees so that their boss and others can spy on them all day, which isn't too great for moral.

One of the few good things about law is that firms rarely do shite like this.

Exactly. Presentation is everything.

It seems like one of those concepts that management loves and employees hate.
It sounds awful.
