From Senator Patrick McMath of Covington:
To say I was disappointed in the Governor's announcement yesterday afternoon would be an understatement. I know you’re ready to get back to work. We are all ready to restart, rebuild, and revive our economy.
Two weeks ago, my colleagues and I sent a letter to Governor John Bel Edwards to tell him that a statewide, universal shutdown was NOT sustainable. Too often, battles become political footballs, so we wanted to privately and respectfully advise the Governor without politicizing the issue. We were looking for results over rhetoric. Obviously, he didn’t listen.
We must institute a regional approach to begin to responsibly and meaningfully reopen our economy. By taking a measured, regional approach to reviving our state, we can simultaneously fight the virus AND get our businesses' and residents back up and running. We can protect lives while restoring livelihoods.
The Governor made his decision. Now I am carefully weighing all options available to me and the legislature to address the extension of his stay at home order.
So what can you do? Two things: First, call the Governor at 866-366-1121 and make your voice heard. Second, sign and share this statewide petition www.openlanow.com and show the Governor you believe in a responsible approach that will allow us to both address the virus and the economic livelihood of our people.

How about a petition to legalize recreational marijuana. That will jump start our economy after a pandemic & economic crisis. Everybody is looking for some feel good news right now.

Hope no one dies because you are a trumpkin believer. I know, more people die from hangnail infections than corona and we dont close the economy....the issue is the fact this virus is more contagious and deadly than hangnails, swimming pools, flu and mva’s but there is no vaccine yet or herd immunity. Do u volunteer to get sick to help the cause? Do u volunteer your kids???? Tough call?

You stay home then along with all at-risk individuals.
We were never supposed to stay home until it was gone. This virus isn’t going away. Sooner or later you will be exposed just like every other coronavirus out there. We will eventually gain herd immunity as we are exposed.
