(me as a 5th grader)
Will the test tell me that I can be a secret agent if my parents and all immediately family dies? I'm down.

This is why those who can't do, teach.

She absolutely shouldn't have put it that way. There are certain things you have to do in life that you don't want to do or agree with but you have to do it anyway. Pissing and moaning about it to your students doesn't do anyone any good.

I'll take that teacher for my kids over the one waiting for pay day to roll around.
I would rather a teacher that gives my kids a does of reality. But, of course, most teachers aren't familiar with that concept.

How is that any different from the last 60 years? Guess what, politicians dictate what I do and how I do it too. Does it suck? Yes. Do I agree with it? No. Is me bitching about it going to change the current situation? No. So what's the point of complaining? Shut up, do it, and try to change the system.

We need to give Jessica a break. She must be new the USA because if she had been here she would know that these students have already had tests like high-stakes assessments. Although the tests were based on different standards, had different names (I think ISAT in Illinois), and were likely not done on the computer, everything else is pretty much the same.
We should also excuse Jessica for not knowing behavioral research that has shown that establishing low expectations for students increases the likelihood of low outcomes.
We must also forgive Jessica for not knowing that it would have probably been more effective to sit down with her students and give them this same message rather than publishing it in The Huffington Post. In fact, if her fifth-grade students got this message from The Huffington Post (or any other news source for that matter) than they are probably pretty bright.

If I think something is wrong, I'm going to tell you it's wrong. But I guess those that can't lead just shut up and do what their told.

Wtf. She must be a shitty teacher if she thinks her kids are too stupid to pass.

Setting those expectations dooms the kids to failure.
This teacher is an idiot.

Glad to see she thinks so little of her children. And you know her day would be ruined if her kids actually did well on the test.

Or most likely, she is just an attention-seeker.

Just like this dumbass teacher. I'm sure her kids did so well on their tests after her defeatist, ho-hum, woe-is-me speech.
You can disagree and protest all you want but at the end of the day you are going to have to do certain things. If you want to change something, I support it, but you have to deal in current realities. This teacher is a prime example of someone who can't comprehend that concept.

My guess is Ms Lifestitz should have spent a bit more time teaching, probably out diddling students and ran out if time

She looks like a cross between Amy Farrah Fowler and that witch from The Wizard of Oz. (Not the good one)
Her and her partner, Carla have been blogging about the baby they plan to adopt.

My guess is that the teacher is retarded.

Without knowing more, this letter kind of pisses me off. Sounds like a whiny, enabling, coddling poor excuse for a teacher. Granted I don't know the context here so I could be way off base.
Open letters are usually written for another audience than the stated and done to draw attention to the author.

My guess is she is going to be a great mom/dad

How many times does she have to say my guess?
She sounds 13 years old.
