quote:7 is not too young if the kid is into baseball and wants to hang out with some college players for a few days and have fun. He's freakin' 7, he's not preparing for the draft. My kid has been going since he was 6 and loves to follow his player coach during the LSU baseball season. These camps don't promote themselves as being elite training sessions, so don't try to make it into something it is not. It's about having fun, getting the kids out of the house during the summer, meeting the college players and coaches, and learning some baseball skills at the same time. They also get pictures and autographs on the last day which is a big deal for a 7 year old who wants to be a Tiger one day. It helps encourage their love of the game which in turn will make them work harder on improving their playing abilities.
It's a money wank.... Much better off going to smaller camps or private lessons if you want him to learn anything that is useful. And Yes 7 yes way too young.
You could send him for the morning session only and start there. It gets HOT out there and you could make it a bad experience if he's burned out after the first day.

What price are you getting on the T1? I would think even if you get half the download speed on Uverse it will still be cheaper AND faster than a T1.

m scared to use something that could kill my plants. My garden is roughly 50yards wide by 100yards long.
quote:I would look into staying at Butler Greenwood if you consider this. They have individual cabins. If you like hiking, you have a few options available and perfect weather to do it. There is a trail at the sports park that you can bike or hike, and it's not too bad. There are spots where you get down to the creek and chill out with nobody around.
The Myrtles in St Francisville is cool for a night but it would be pretty dull for a whole weekend. Maybe head up to Natchez on Sat?

Rubber snake in the bush but visible will work.
Raw in a salad is good. Sautee in a little butter for just a few minutes and then sprinkle sea salt on them.
re: 12 yo Tournament Baseball practice

quote:To be fair, it's still a single weekend and they are still showing off their "trophy" that they bash everyone else for. These tournaments use "ring events" to promote themselves and entice teams to sign up. I don't really care about the kid getting a ring, it's the hypocrisy of it all that gets under my skin. And I won't even start on "We're going to the World Series!" b/c we can afford the entry fee.
To be fair, that single weekend of playing is usually 5-7 games between Saturday and Sunday against some decent competition.
quote:No, the travel ball winners all get rings now. The same people who are against every kid getting a trophy because they work hard and show up to every practice are now posting pictures all over for everyone to see Little Johnny with his 6 ft tall trophy and 1st place ring from a single weekend of playing.
Travel ball isn't exactly every kid gets a trophy format..

Yeah, I wouldn't even try that. What I had left went bad this week.

Besides the normal tomato and bell peppers, I like doing sugar snap peas(need something they can climb), green onions, and squash / zuccini(need room to grow so don't plant too close).

Nassau absolutely go to Atlantis. We had a blast with kids and adults hitting the lazy river and water slides all day. I'm not a water park person but my buddy's kids were hell bent on there so we just stayed together and I had a blast.
re: What are some hitting drills that would help to stop the chop swing?
Posted by WFTiger on 3/16/15 at 12:34 pm to tgrbaitn08
Here is something I've used. SKLZ Zip-N-Hit But I don't use it the way it is designed. I put the ball in a stationary position like it is on a tee, instead of using the handles to send the ball towards the hitter. The string helps with teaching a good swing b/c if you chop down, the ball is just going to bounce in one place. If you swing properly, the ball is going to slide down the string.

quote:What is going on today is very different. What is going on today is different from 5 years ago much less 60. And I'm not a "shut up and do it" kind of person. If I think something is wrong, I'm going to tell you it's wrong. But I guess those that can't lead just shut up and do what their told.
How is that any different from the last 60 years? Guess what, politicians dictate what I do and how I do it too. Does it suck? Yes. Do I agree with it? No. Is me bitching about it going to change the current situation? No. So what's the point of complaining? Shut up, do it, and try to change the system.
quote:Reality is that a bunch of politicians are dictating what and how the teachers should teach and what and how the students should learn.
I would rather a teacher that gives my kids a does of reality. But, of course, most teachers aren't familiar with that concept.
quote:This is one of the most idiotic statements. If only we could live in a world where nobody was ever taught anything. That would be just great. I'm sure you are a super being that could learn everything you need to know on your own without any instruction. By the way, Common Core has nothing to do with this. Higher standards has nothing to do with it. These test are to benefit the people that created them and make money off of them. That is why there is a fuss over them. It is not making better students. If anything, it is taking away from instruction the students should be getting instead of weeks preparing for it, and then a full week of taking it. This teacher sees first hand the effects on her students of over testing, and she is what we need more of. Maybe she shouldn't have put it the way she did, but it's b/c she cares about her students. I'll take that teacher for my kids over the one waiting for pay day to roll around.
This is why those who can't do, teach.
quote:Teachers today are having their compensation depend on what a student does on standardized test and not the growth of their students during the year. Thus students are trained all year on how to pass this one test and the retention of knowledge is lacking. The government likes the test b/c they make money off of it. The unions like the idea of monitoring the growth of the student while they are under a teacher's care.
Teachers today are not compensated on how well they teach our children, but on how well their unions negotiate.
