My payroll deduction hasn't increased much, but my deductibles have. And now instead of a $40 copay to see a specialist, I have to pay in full until my deductible is met, then I pay 20%. Damn near every Dr other than a basic primary care Dr falls under a specialist these days.

That's how insurance now works. Cheap copayers clog up the system.

Dang. I feel for y'all having to pay all of that. We were paying 12k a year in premiums last year but with my wife's new job we only pay $60 a month with $1000 deductible.

Obamacare certainly accelerated things but let's be intellectually honest, health insurance premiums have always outpaced inflation and routinely remove covered services. It's been a trend for decades now.

It's time to start looking at the HC industry as a whole. You think gov't is an overbloated shitshow? Try looking at the healthcare industry.

Our went up $10 per pay period so $260 per year but eventually you'll see bigger increases from employers too. They aren't eating all of that extra cost.

Y'all are lucky y'all don't have a preexisting condition. Most insurance companies won't deal with me because of my gluten intolerance and peanut allergy

Non-small business employers have been pretty well shielded from the ACA.

Small businesses aren't as lucky.

I pay $500/mo through my wife's work.
More than car insurance on all my vehicles combined.
But better than no insurance I guess.

It's funny that health insurance is going up so much when Medicare payments have kept pace with inflation.

Because Insurance companies are mandated to pay a fixed percentage of premiums towards medical befits they have a perverse disincentive to push for lower medical prices. With rising medical prices come rising premiums and increased insurer profits.

We should just do away with private insurance and go to single payer or a true free market system with some kind of safety net for catastrophic medical.

I tend to agree but you're about to get killed on this board

So true. I saw the cost of a physical for an uninsured patient once and it was absurd. Like with no blood work even it was in the $600 range.

Now it's likely to get that down if you ask and especially if you're paying cash, but it should never be that high. The only reason it is that high is because the patient doesn't cover that bill and it's all a money game with the insurance companies.

The more I look at it, the more I agree. You can't go half and half. Has to either be a free market or a govt market.

Costs are out of fricking control. I brought my little girl (10-months) in to urgent care-she was running 104 fever. We saw a nurse practitioner for about 4 minutes and she prescribed some antibiotics because she found a slight inner ear infection.

My cost after insurance adjustment: right at $300. The cost before insurance adjustment was around $485.

$485 for a 4-minute visit with an NP. frick that bullshite.

We have 60 employees. If we keep our current plan we will see an increase of 18%. I am having to raise out of pocket costs and change co-insurance from 100% to 70/30 Insurance/employee. I'm also having to put a $200 deductible of name brand medications. That's for my PPO.

On my HDHP I'm having to raise the deductible and discontinue coverage for preventative medications that used to be covered before the deductible.

All of that is to keep costs the same. It's pretty obscene how much this shite goes up the same year for the same level of service. I really want to provide the best for my guys and their families, but at some point I have to start cutting costs. Sucks.

Employee's are not aware of how much their policy costs. My entire policy is $7500 per year but my employer pays 89% of it. I'm sure if I was an the individual market and paying the $7500 myself, I would be screaming about the scam of health insurance.
