You can go camping in a state park for a fraction of that cost.

Yeah, it's expensive, but doesn't seem to stop plenty of trashy looking people from dropping the cash to go.

Between this and carnival cruises, it’s one of the mysteries of life hiw trashy / ghetto people afford this.

Oh, well when you don’t pay for food, housing, and get 13k in tax refund cause you game the system…

Call me crazy but $7000 for a trip for a family of four to Disney, what is going to be one of the most significant childhood trips, is just not that much money.

You think that is more significant than spending 2 weeks traveling around Europe or something like that?

You're in Orlando.

To each their own, but that is wild people would prioritize a few days at a theme park in Orlando over some seriously awesome international travel.

Your kids below the age of 10 won't appreciate traveling abroad at all. That trip would be for you, not them. Which is fine but don't act like your 7 year old would have just as much fun touring the Vatican as he/she would riding rides.

agree, Disney falls into the category with WalMarks and Carnival cruises to me, just got back from a couple of weeks in Europe and excluding airfare I'm not sure we spent that much and it was an absolute awesome rtrip

Never priced it, but can a family of 4 spend 2 weeks in Europe for under 7000?
Seems like lodging and flights alone would likely be 4-5k.

I love comments like these in Disney threads. The amount of world travelers on the OT never ceases to amaze me. Especially with small children.

FYI, you can take a family of 4 to Disney for 5 days for under $2k if you stay at certain hotels and go during non peak times. If you have to stay in the Polynesian suite during Christmas then yes, you will spend $10k.

The mistake I think they’re making is ignoring a future demographic, specifically younger children who may grow up with little or no nostalgia for Disney.

I do think they know this and it’s why they are leaning so heavily into IP at the parks.

Every new or rethemed attraction is tied to a current character in movies or television.

Kid likes Tiana so they get mom and dad to bring them to ride that ride. Would not care if it was still Brer Rabbit

My boys are in their late teens and love that we always took mountain and beach trips instead of wasting a vacation on Disney. They talk about all the amazing hiking we've done often. I know they wouldn't call Disney significant.

To each their own…my kids rather go to exotic places/ beaches than go hiking and exercising for vacation.

Everyone has a preferred destination.

Partially, but their movies suck now too and there is very little focus on the fab 5. Yes, Disney Jr is not terrible but it’s not what it was back in 80’s and 90’s. Then what they did to the Star Wars franchise, they have a lot of work to do in order to get it all back.

Around $7k is what we did for 4 of us for 11 days. Southern France and Coastal Spain. Airbnb's in small towns, cheap boat trip on the Mediterranean. Amazing food, etc. Could've done some things cheaper too. Just have to get the right flight deals, because that is by far the biggest cost.

My kids were under 10 and loved it.

I have one of these families at our school. They scoff when we or anyone else says they are going to Disney and say things like "We are taking our kids to Japan instead of that garbage." Then I see their kids after their triop and ask "How was Japan?" and they give some sort of "Its was fine." answer. Meanwhile I ask any kid that went o DW how their trio was nad they light up and tell me all about their favorite rides.

Again, to each their own. If you don't want to spend the money to go to Disney then don't but don't try to pull me into your mental gymnastics you are doing to convice the world that your kids enjoy going to France and looking at Art just as much as they would have enjoyed Disney World.

Its like the Vegans that make their dog Vegan. Put a bowl a meat infornt of that dog and see which one he chooses.

I would never do this to people IRL. That's douchey. Let other people do what they want and don't rain on their parade. I say "oh nice, that sounds great" and don't try to one-up.

Internet with strangers is different

Disney parks have over-crowding issues as it as already. Hence why they keep raising prices.

Lower prices = even more over-crowded, more time spent waiting in lines, more trashy people who argue or try to cut lines because they need "to meet up with the rest of their group"

Both, the answer is both.

Take your kids to do genuinely cool stuff most of the time. Less materialistic stuff. National Parks, Europe, whatever. Multi-family vacations at a beach house on SGI or somewhere there is nothing else to do but make your own fun.

And take them to Disney once or twice when they're the ideal age for it.

Flights are the most expensive part. Me and my wife spent 10 days in Italy for under $4k. Over half of that was flights. Air BnB in three different cities and train travel around the country. It's not bad at all.

Well they must be giving discounts to foreigners, as that's the bulk of the crowd anyway.

Well I'm commenting on the $7k.
