I don't know much about these statues as far as weight or location specifics, but lets just say it takes a full 40hr week to do this with 1 250T truck crane with 1 operator and 2 riggers plus all the necessary trucks for counter weights, statue transportation, etc etc
This could be probably done for sub 60k
Permits? Road closures and crews? Insurance? Off duty police for security and traffic control? What else am I missing?

I was talking to a friend who works in construction in the city.
He told me this is a DBE contractor. For those who don't know what that means, it basically is an affirmative action policy implemented by our wonderful city.
On every city project you have to hire a DBE business (read black). It is a giant kick back scheme. Most of these business do either no or shite work and then just sue everybody at the end of the project.
I fully expect the city to pay these people the $600k. It's all part of the game.

Contractor's personal car being torched, plus public backlash potentially leading to loss of future business from supporters of keeping the statues up.

then nothing will get done right?
so the taxpayers are paying to keep the statues?

Permits?
Permits/police escort/route survey is a few thousand bucks if I had to guess. Could get a little higher if power lines and street lights need to be removed by local utility companies. Again, not sure off the top of my head. Still wouldn't be a ridiculous amount of money.

Insurance?
covered by crane company in bid contract

that's pretty much all of it. You could need other shite like jack and slide, or a second small picker crane, etc but it all just depends on how tight the pick would be. Could add up a bit more but IMO it wouldn't get in the same universe as 600K.
Crane size is a lot more about weight. Sometimes a 250T crane will be needed to grab a 5,000lb piece because it has the reach that a smaller crane doesn't have, even though the small crane could pick up the same object. It's all about boom length and boom angle.

You are so clueless. Did you even read the bid? Do yourself a favor and go read the bid and educate yourself on what the contractor is responsible for then tell me you can do this job for $20k or whatever ridiculous number you mentioned.
I agree it's not a $600k job but it's not less than $100k either.

That's just part of the game. I bet, including the people here, that most of them have their wives as the owner of their companies because it qualifies them for more projects.
Just think what a veteran minority woman owned company qualifies for?
Just a part of the game man.

no, nor do I care to. I'm just roping off prices to do the actual job outside of the other bullshite that is probably mentioned in the bid. I said several times that I don't know the size of these things or a have a clue where they're even at. I'm just having some fun crunching numbers from what I remember about the industry.

then tell us bub, how much will it cost?

540K profit might not be worth the lost business, threats, and headache.
Posted on 4/4/17 at 3:53 pm to LSUFanHouston
It obviously wouldn't be that low. Hell we were doing month long plant turnarounds with multiple cranes for almost less than that bid to remove 3 fricking statues

so what's your point? You just made mine
I'm just having fun it with man to show the naive people that there's no fricking way this should cost over half a million dollars to do. Chill out
