Yes but the solution to your problems is not focusing on yourself and your problems.

The solution, no matter how you feel at the time, is doing for others. Love is not a feeling, love is an action. And, by her own words, all of her actions were self serving.

Maybe she was deeper and more complex than her final note and maybe I am wrong. But I can’t see any evidence of others and real love except for a quick quip at the end for mom and dad.

However, suicide is an intensely selfish act at its core. Not wanting to fight. Not wanting to endure.

It may be selfish, but everyone commits selfish acts.

The person I loved the absolute most in this world committed suicide. It fricking sucks, to this day I still struggle with the grief. She suffered from chronic depression for years. Tried to take her life a few times unsuccessfully (I found out about this after her passing and am still upset I wasn't told sooner). She had been through a lot of heartache and issues. Don't feel like getting into it all here. At the time she had met an amazing man, had plans to marry but her past still haunted her. She was at a point where she should be happy, but just wasn't. As much as I miss her and wish she was still here, I think it's selfish of me to want her to live when everyday was a struggle for her.

You and I understand this. She was mentally ill!

Mentally ill people don’t think rationally. Their whole world is a self hatred delusion.

You and I agree more than it seems on the surface. I agree with most of what you have said.

I’d be willing to bet not. She had a mental illness.

Define normal.

A struggle to feel connected to humanity while living a life that instagrams well is more common than we care to admit. Suicide rates are at their highest in decades. While most don’t cross that line I’m guessing far more of the folks in your feed have thought seriously about it than you realize.

I think we are going to see an increase in the suicide rate of those in their 20’s and early 30’s right now as they age due to the large number in this generation who were prescribed psychotropic meds at a younger age as well as due to their warped sense of reality and values due to social media.

Depression is a dark hole. I went through it a few years ago. Luckily I worked up the courage to see someone and found out I was depressed, not just empty inside as I felt. Went through women, whiskey, and jobs like it was nothing and barely kept up with my family. Just enough to not have them worry.

I’m incapable of feeling joy. The most positive feeling I’m capable of experiencing is relief. Relief that the bad outcome didn’t happen. But shite, waking up every day fearing another panic attack is coming and this might be the one that costs you your job gets tiring. I just couldn’t do it to my parents. If and when I lose them, which is sooner rather than later probably, I just don’t know what will keep me going.

Normal to me is someone not contemplating suicide. I thought that was very clear.

What in anything that I commented on gave you the impression I do not realize this and if anyone thinks suicide is the answer to their problems then yes, they’re mentally ill.

Wal, I’m so sorry you’re having these issue. I can relate more than I’d care to admit here.

I’m glad you realize what you mean to your parents and I’m willing to bet there’s others including strangers on a message board that care. I know the struggle is so tiring but please reach out to anyone you feel comfortable enough to talk to. Even if it’s this bunch of weirdos here.

Unfortunately sometimes it can be a side effect of antidepressants. It's so weird. I started taking one for anxiety. It made me feel like crap, so I quit cold turkey and that's when it all went downhill. I had plans to slit my wrists and was in hysterics. I knew that wasn't me though and told Boo to take me to the hospital. It was so strange. Never in my life felt that way. It was terrifying to me that it actually sounded like a good option. I was on medicine just to control some anxiety. I wouldn't say I was mentally ill.

You are correct. You were having a mental side affect to that medication. Thank God it was temporary but it did put you in a state of not thinking clearly or rationally.

It's weird how suicidal thoughts are a side effect of a lot of anti-depressants. And it is SO SO SO important to be weaned off once you start them. I just am so thankful I had someone there. Had I been alone at the time, I probably wouldn't be here today.

I don't think it's selfish an anyone who says it is really doesn't understand. While I dealt with depression (it was something I struggled with for a little over a year, not nearly as long as many people) and while I never wanted to kill myself, I had the feeling of not caring if I was still around.

But I can understand how someone could be so depressed they think that killing themselves is their only way out. People might feel like others are better without them and in their mind the act might no be selfish at all.

I give you crap on here, but in my mind it's just good fun. I don't think you take anything here seriously. But if it ever bothers you, I will stop.

Sad story in the OP.

Nothing pithy from me on this subject.

Anyone here who suspects they need help probably needs to get help.

Good luck.
