I have my Xbox, PS5, BluRay Player, Switch, and FireTV Cube all running through an Integra receiver running a 5.2.4 setup. It's been awesome.

I believe my Denon receiver was built in Vietnam

For a while Denon has made its top two AVRs in Japan and the rest in Vietnam. Currently, that is the 6700 and 8500 so the $3100 and $4600 price points.

The Vietnam-made AVRs have proven to be solid and especially once you get over $1000 Denon offers a lot of bang for the buck.

A lot of their higher end receivers are being made in Japan again.

Don't see this either as I just purchased a $1,400 Onkyo RZ50 receiver in December and stream things regularly through the 9.2 channels it powers as well as Airplay music off my iPhone.

Not sure what's changed as far as the bankruptcy as they were just purchased last fall by Premium Audio and Sharp??
Onkyo, Pioneer, Integra acquired

The mainstream market seems to have moved on from A/V receivers and home-theater-in-a-box systems towards soundbars and smart/wireless speakers.

Which is unfortunate because most flat screen tvs are more thin than ever and have worse sound. A sound bar never has quite done it for me

Damnit! Essentially the only receivers I have ever owned. I have two currently. Hope they last a long time..

No one gives a shite about hifi. We're all about bluetooth speakers, air pods, and TV sound bars.

Makes me sad. I had a rack of JVC components with about a billion LED lights on it. Separate CD, record player, receiver, cassette decks..

I still have my home theater system going through a 5.1 receiver...so there's still that. But even that's kinda going away, with Harmony giving up on remotes now that everyone basically just does the sound bar.

The irony of now going into Best Buy and not being able to buy a CD...but they have a lot of vinyl to choose from.

Again, I don't see why this would since as I posted earlier, they were acquired just last fall by Premium Audio and Sharp which has deep pockets. Perhaps this is part of the restructuring deal? I haven't seen anything else on the hi-fi audio forums. Also, if vinyl records can still be around, I don't see hi-fi components ever being obsolete as there will always be a demand by some for quality.

As one very familiar with electronics distribution. They still sell a ton of their products.

The answer was implicit.

Streaming alone isn't hurting them, streaming to smartphones and tablets and listening via Airpods is killing them.

And bingo. Even for home systems now, soundbars and a sub have come along way. And for the price of just an Onkyo receiver, you can buy a very functional soundbar with a plethora of input options.

I do. I still love a good old school two channel setup.

I don't know if vinyl purchases necessarily translates to enough consumer demand for quality though. A lot of people seem to do it for the collectability. Personally, because of convenience I mostly listen to music on Spotify at AAC/256k, or stream lossless FLAC from Plexamp, or multichannel/hi-res with Kodi. When I really like an album and decide to buy it, I buy it on vinyl because I want a physical object for my money, I enjoy the large art format, and it feels like the most universally collectable, always "timeless" format (then I get a download copy and throw it on Plex, I'll never have to buy my old favorites in a new format ever again). I only actually have a $100 basic turntable and barely ever spin up the vinyl though.

My wife also likes picking up a lot of vintage vinyl for super cheap at garage sales, antique stores, etc. because it's fun to throw on an old Brenda Lee record sometimes, but those records usually have a lot of imperfections and aren't worth trying to get sounding good.

Because Younger Millenials and Zoomers don't own stereos. They just stream everything off of their iPhone.

I was describing a full stereo set of my youth to my teenaged son... two huge tower speakers, a receiver, turntable, cassette deck, and amp... and he thought that was just the strangest thing he'd ever heard. I may as well have been describing a steam engine to him. He's grown up in a world where phones have always had everything you ever wanted, entertainment-wise, on demand.

There is better stuff (and much more of it) today than any time in the past. 2 ch mid-fi is taking somewhat of a beating but hi-fi continues to go, since by and large only the older generations can afford it.

Love hearing 4k movies w/Atmos through my Onkyo powered 9.2 setup with an SVS PB-2000 subwoofer. Try getting that sound quality through your iPhone, millennials!!

Love my Onkyo receiver circa 2012. Thing weighs 40+ lbs and with the right speaker setup, the sound is superb. That said, you don’t see many good AV setups anymore unless someone has a dedicated media room. For music, because of the convenience factor, Bluetooth and steaming is pretty much standard even though it sounds like arse. And if your source sounds like crap there isn’t much point in running it into a $5k sound system. A couple hundred buck soundbar with a sub gets the job done. Hell, I tend to listen to a Bose wave radio in my office and a $100 portable BT speaker in the garage more than my big system because those are the places I spend the most time when listening to music. I can’t remember the last time I watched a Blu-ray movie in surround at full volume. The days of 500lbs of speakers taking up space in the house are over for most people. Sadly, the younger generations won’t know what good sound sounds like.

I think it’s mainly dumb millennials thinking soundbars are actually good

Glad someone said it. I have a very basic Sony surround system with a sub and it sounds 100x better than all but the super high end sound bars that’s I would never buy anyway. I can understand the minimalist approach to a sound bar but the performance does not even approach a receiver system.
