Not many jams a Rolex Explorer II can't get you out of.

Bunch of people with expensive watches, untailored pants, and cheap shoes in this thread.
If the person you are trying to impress thinks a watch is the signifier for assets, then good gravy.

I like a domed crystal, 38-39 mm ideally. I’d love to have a vintage Rolex Explorer with painted dial. Explorer I

Either a Daytona or brass Black Bay.

Save the coin and get a Tudor black bay.

Breitling Navitimer BO1

watches are personal preference but I think a Breitling Navitimer checks just about all those boxed of the right face and the right band are paired together.

This is dumb.
I wear my Rolex every single day. The ONLY people that ever notice it are other big watch fans and even that is rare.
People just DGAF what you wear. I don't care either. I bought it for ME, not do anyone else.

I have worn my Spirit of Japan with an old concert T, frayed shorts, and tennis shoes that had seen better days. IDGAF what anyone thinks about me or my watch.

For me having one watch is akin to having one pair of shoes. I would look as stupid in the court room with 5 year old running shoes on as I would cutting grass in John Lobb monk straps.
In the spirit of the thread and keeping with the budget my answer is one of these:
The JLC NSD, Rolex SD4K or Blancpain FF
The only one available new is the Blancpain 5015. The Rolex 116600 is my favorite ceramic Rolex but just looking the used prices are now in the $18k+ range. The other two are easy to fit into the price range. The JLC NSD is available used under $10k and you can have your choice of three hander, alarm, GMT or chronograph and the alternate between the rubber covered bracelet or the leather/ballistic strap on mine above.
There are so many quality watches available there isn't going to be a consensus. Just picking a single brand is painful enough for most watch nuts.

A Seamaster is my practical dream watch, over the years there's been tons of options to fit your tastes. The upcoming green professional and older black dial ones are really clean and classy, but also could be used as an every day of the year "beater" if that's what you want to do with it.
Gonna get myself a Professional for my 30th bday in a couple years, there's one specific model that I've been eyeing for years.

Omega seamaster Blue dial. Black dial is other option. With that budget you could get both black and blue dials!
Omega also lets you buy bands rubber/cloth to mix up looks.
