Lockheed Martin, Northrop, and Boeing make better planes than Mikoyan and Sukhoi. I wish the Ukrainians had American made planes.

What I have heard suggested about that is they don't want to damage the Infrastructure any more than they have to because they intend for Ukraine to be a part of Russia, not turned into rubble. Whether or not that is true I don't know.
With the usual propaganda that comes with war and the suspect state of the media I'm not sure how much of what we're hearing is accurate

Shortly before this invasion pundits said Russia is a 3rd world country with a 1st world military. I'm with you... the veil has been lifted and it's 2nd world at best. Nukes are their only deterrent or they would lose the entirety of that huge country to many in a HTH fight. On their soil or not.

I think he’s also got to “win” in the international eyes. If he just yeeted Ukraine he would turn Russia into North Korea. He’s trying to keep some shred of legitimacy to whatever he’s doing.

It is weird. I think Russia just doesn't want to go full ape here. They haven't gotten the response they wanted internationally. They can't really occupy Ukraine without going full ape, the population won't allow it. They can't really pull back without looking stupid.

I don’t know that he is, but it makes sense that he would. If I was him I’d have a plan to neutralize whatever highly portable weapons the US gave them. I would do this by feinting a lot and the targeting where the firing came from. It would be slow and methodical - it might even take three months - but when it’s over I would have accomplished my objectives with fewer Russian (and civilian) casualties. And the only thing lost would be the good opinion of armchair QBs on tigerdroppings, reddit and the like.
On the other hand, I’ve been posting on here for weeks about how weak the Russian military is. Both their economy and their military spending are 6% to 7% of ours.

If you were Putin, and knew your forces were going to absorb a lot of Javelins, NLAWs, etc...would you send in the A-team first to take the hits? Or would you send in the obsolete gear and rejects/conscripts to absorb the hits, since those assets get expended either way...

The old tenants of communism are still baked into the system.
You know, laziness and no incentive to work hard and innovate, etc. not to mention raging alcoholism among the majority of males in that country.

Two reasons, he wants to take a functioning country not build one, the second is if the lights go out he loses a pipeline.
