Terrible talking point. It's about what the employee brings to the table

Employers purchase labor

quote:

I've seen jobs stay open for months while several very qualified candidates have sent resumes for, but most of them would need an amount of training the company wasn't willing to provide. They often want someone that can come in and hit the ground running from day one.

For unskilled positions this isn't the case. Hell they'll hire anyone.

To advance and make more money

Show up to work every day, on time
Don't show up drunk
Don't fight at work
Do at least a half assed effort

Viola, you'll advance

I'm actually very pro free market, but i just listed reasons for why it can get inhibited. Im not going to deny that since we all live here, we all should pay taxes for our shared living space (the country that this). How much we should pay is where people differ.

I wouldn't mind keeping taxes low, if we replaced wasteful and robust defense/govt spending and reappropriated that to investments in our citizens, like education, healthcare, infrastructure.

Just let citizens keep more of the money they've traded their time for

Haven't read the thread, but I stopped by Wendy's last night on my way home. Ordered the five dollar meal with a double stack and some nuggets. The double stack was made incorrectly, and the four-piece nuggets only had three in it.

$15 an hour is insane and would hurt the economy greatly IMO, but a much simpler reason is that a lot of times fast food workers can't even do something as simple as counting to four. Reason enough to not double their wages IMO.

Okay. And do you not invest in things you purchase to get the most of them? Regularly change the oil in your car, stay on top of routine maintenance on your house, insure your valuables, etc.? It's the same premise. Putting time and effort into training your employees and giving them the tools to succeed generally produces higher quality employees that want to stick around long term and make the company successful.

In a more global economy, I cant possibly see how hoarding more for ourselves improves the world around us. We, unfortunately for many here, live in an interconnected world now. Hoarding literally just makes conditions worse. Sure I will be able to care for my small tribe, and feed mine and take care of them. But what good are they in a world around them that is scrumbling? Im not sure how much you can isolate someone and expect them to be fully self sufficient on their own. Im just being honest. Very few men are John Wayne or Lebron James.

The hoarding mentality, me-me-me mentality is rather arrogant and ignorant and totally dismissive of the realities of the world today. Just how i feel. Whether I like it or not, my actions and decisions do have collateral and wide spread effects on people around me. The self-isolation mindset is voided of humility and just oozes hubris. A wise man knows he cant win it on his own..consistently.

I dont think this should inhibit us to becoming our best and truest, and freest selves through. If your worldview is *strictly* binary, then perhaps so

And part of the blame for that environment falls on employees, because nowadays they are willing to jump to a new opportunity with a different company after a short tenure.

Yeah, I think the best approach here would be to share the responsibility. For example, the employer selects an internal candidate and pays for a few classes, but the candidate has to stay in that role for a couple of years or they get a bill from the employer.

If this were a voluntary arrangement between the employer and employee then I think that would be great.

There are a lot of companies that don't grasp the value of investing in their employees. From what I've seen, they typically have a really shitty culture coupled with high turnover. Most don't last long. Management spends an ungodly amount of hours constantly looking to replace employees who left. Kills productivity and focus.

This is a completely false narrative, because while you’re focusing on what all “those stingy people” have, you’re completely ignoring the fact that the majority of them got there by busting their tails to serve others.

I agree, but when we are discussing employees with no skills or education, and the jobs require the skill of a pre teen to do, it's kind of irrelevant.

Not sure what the question has to do with my post, but I guess I should point out my post had nothing to do with minimum wage. It was more about companies looking for entry-level and middle management positions for college graduates.

In my experience, employees not willing to invest in themselves are quickly culled in companies that invest in their employees.

You simply don't understand the world. You sound like a fine sociology student though.

Who is hoarding? How does accypumulated wealth prevent you from succeeding?

It's nothing but a scapegoat to those who fail

I think the person who initially mentioned this issue was talking more generally. Not specifically about unskilled labor.

Additionally, even some unskilled/low skill employers only want college educated or higher for positions that absolutely do not require a college education to do.

I just want to add, I am a little horrified by how many people are OK with the exact same rationales that we’re proposed by Marxism in the 20th century.

Something something history something doomed to repeat it. But hey, what’s another country to add to the long poop stain of countries that have collapsed under these ideas?

Ive definitely seen customer service positions or mid management positions like this, but these generally "invest in the employee" with training and allowing them to learn the business.
