When I read threads like this on this site, it is always fairly sobering……I’m guessing most of the posters here are “southern”, and were probably raised around or in Christian culture. But there is always an overwhelming number who are clearly not Christians. When we don’t have massive support of Christianity in the south, it’s over. So it’s over. It’s really just more fulfilling of Bible prophecy. Strange how something based on “loving your neighbor” gets so much hate. And they call us weird***

I agree. When it all breaks down it’s about living a moral life. There’s no such thing as an atheist or as they call it “agnostic”. Show me one and I can tell you who their god is.

I read the Mormons were some mean and violent motherfrickers back in those days. Gangster style.

100%.

Brigham Young was lucky as hell the Civil War broke out making it take a nearly two decades for the Feds to investigate the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

Considering early Mormons encountered persecution and mob violence from their beginnings in New York to the Hawn's Mill Massacre in Missouri, and Joseph Smith's eventual murder, it's no surprise they became resentful and ruthless militants.

That's not meant as a defense of them. Smith was a shite-stirrer at every stop he made. Just saying the early Mormons had developed a siege mentality before they even reached Utah.

Did you miss your quote to which I was responding? You said you could name their god. Who is it?

And do what?

It means if I knew you as a person and what you like to do with your time I could find something that is your “god”. Mans biggest challenge is “self.

Yes they do they can get a common marriage and even attend church together

The non member can attend the temple but they can’t go beyond the reception area because they either aren’t temple members or haven’t obtained a temple recommendation so they can’t enter the inner sanctum. In order to be sealed in a temple then they both have to be members and be a member of the temple.

What’s your take on the fate of the golden tablets?

I don’t think they ever existed. I think Joseph Smith was a con man

I share that opinion. If I have in my hands the physical proof of the basis for my religion, I don’t think I’d give it back to Moroni or bury it back in the hill. That’s just too convenient.

I'm telling you the truth that I'm married to a Mormon. She is faithful to their church and teachings. Her bishop recognized our marriage and we were married in the local Morman church. Her father was not Mormon, but her mother was.
Mormons are great people, mostly successful. I believe their faith has enabled them to become some of our best citizens. I don't agree with their theology but I have no problem with them as friends/neighbors, or in my case, wives. She is the best and I'm better knowing her.

The story of America is essentially that people genetically predisposed to being crazy enough to sail into the complete unknown colonized the East Coast. Then of that subset of crazy people, the offspring that were even more crazy kept going west until the absolute craziest ended up in places like Salt Lake City and San Francisco. And in an ironic twist of events, modern capitalism rewards crazy with tremendous wealth and areas like these are full of wildly prosperous people.

Its why beating America at innovation is damn near impossible. It’s literally in our genetics and we have continued to collect the biggest risk takers from all over the world for several more generations.

You are clearly not equipped for that discussion.

That's simply not true.

An atheist is someone who does not believe in the existence of a supreme being. A (without) theos (god)

An agnostic is someone who holds the view that the existence of a supreme being is unknown.

yeah but then you have to define “supreme being”. For me it’s enough to recognize the very great need for organized religion for human society to be even marginally functional and peaceful

everything else is just color

This is true. I have met many atheists who reject the existence of a God of religion but are open to the idea of a force or being who set creation into existence.
