By a plutonium bomb dropped from the B-29 Superfortress known as Bockscar. The resulting explosion releases a yield estimated at 23 kilotons that shot this now iconic mushroom cloud into the sky high above the city:
It is estimated that the bomb killed between 60,000-80,000 people.

Mass murder done by the United States government

Murder and war is one of the things that humans have perfected sadly. And the beat goes on.

That didn’t take long. Always a few people like you.

You're not wrong. However, the circumstances being what they were, there would have been mass murder done by our government no matter which option we would have chosen in regards to Japan in 1945:
1. Invasion - would lead to mass murder
2. Blockade - would lead to mass murder
3. Bombing - would lead to mass murder
4. Soviet invasion - would lead to mass murder

It’s called war. Don’t start shite, there won’t be shite.

Bend the knee
Edit: not sure why this is getting downvoted…. I meant it was the US as saying submit and surrender or we will decimate your entire country and make you wish you’d never done Pearl Harbor

Conventional firebombing of Tokyo killed more than either A bomb

It's fascinating to me that so many peoples fates that day and at Hiroshima were so tied to the weather.
More cloud cover here or less there and today no one would really know the name of either city.

We also had to prove to Stalin that we had the bomb and were willing to use it.
Otherwise he may have rolled through Europe and the rest of Asia

Seeing this revisionist history that the Japanese were trying to surrender. BS.
They wanted to keep their remaining conquered lands and for the emperor to stay in power.
That’s not a surrender. Even after Nagasaki, the war cabinet tried to stage a coup to keep fighting

Nagasaki was actually the backup target in case of weather. Kokura was the primary second target.

—-on Aug 9, Kokura was the primary target but cloudy conditions there shifted the mission to Nagasaki.
Cloud cover mattered bc the photo unit wanted to have clear documentation of the bomb’s effects.
