The Caterie fire was one of those events I was in disbelief the first time I heard it reported. Total disbelief.

I know what you mean. Disbelief that it was happening. But at the same time an absolute thought of “yeah, surprised it took this long.”

Loved that place. Hit most of the bars in BR in the 80’s but that became the Friday and Saturday night hangout late in my LSU years. Always a band and no cover.

The Socks
The Shoes
JT and the Gutter Sharks
Contraband
Henry Gray

Can’t remember the other bands.

I remember their "Kill the White People" t-shirt, lol

Loved the Caterie but was really sad when Shanahans closed. Drive by that building all the time and it brings back some great memories.

The businesses are all located in a shopping center.

It just doesn't get much better than a nightclub in a strip mall.

Solid arson move by the owner of the shopping center to get out from underneath some bad debts.

Respectfully

Was this before or after the same owners torched Fairway View club?

They burned The Caterie first.

We used the sing the shite out of Kill the white people at frat house. I guess mockingly but very mockingly.
i remember the socks and the guitar guy.

JB doesn’t ring a bell, but i remember a jimbo or something. We all lived in Lakeview Apts at the time. (Mom was recently divorced at time) Wendell Tilley was a friend of mine, Ritchie Morrison, (Rest in Peace), Daryl can’t remember his last name, few others. I went to Goodwood, and twin oaks elementary, Brad Leblanc, if you are on here l. I was your best friend in 5th 6th grade. lol

in the early 90's there was nothing better than finishing up class around noon and heading to the Caterie to drink the afternoon away with $5 pitchers.

Of course busing expedited BR's decline, though with the demographic shift in southern cities it would have occurred eventually anyway

Baton Rouge had a lot going for it. Pretty solid public schools, Capital City, LSU etc. It would look completely different today.
