On this day 31 years ago, absolutely nothing happened in the People’s Republic of China

It was a pretty normal day. Nothing happened at Tiananmen Square. Why would you expect anything else?

The things their government has gotten away with would make Stalin blush

They exterminated more people than Hitler could have a wet dream about.
But we need those nikes

Imagine living in a country where tanks roam the public streets. Crazy

I know I was being sarcastic since it’s already happened

Is it true that the dude staring down the tanks was never identified, and no one knows what became of him?
I mean, I have a pretty good idea of what became of him...

I thought it was June 4th when they put the protest down.
ETA: It was. So, literally, nothing happened 31 years ago today.

The protests started on April 15 and were forcibly suppressed on June 4 when the government declared martial law and sent the military to occupy central parts of Beijing.

No one knows who he is.
Internal Chinese government documents that have leaked (lol) allege that they don't know who he is either, and that he was never arrested or identified.
Some former US officials have said they believe he was executed 14 days later.
No one knows. He was probably executed.

He would have been “lucky” to get a bullet in the head. But the government likely wasn’t that accommodating.
