Hitler was an extremely gifted public speaker and the people of Germany had been facing some very hard times so it's not hard to see why people bought in. Still, he only won 36% of the vote. It's just that when Paul von Hindenburg died, nobody stopped Hitler from seizing total control.

But not necessarily in a better way. Germany was going authoritarian no matter what. We know what we got with Nazism. I'm not convinced a Red Germany would have been an improvement. Obviously some really awful things wouldn't have happened, but some other really awful things would have happened.

I would guess communist Germany and the Soviets would fight over who would be the vanguard for global communism. German communism would probably differ from Stalinism. But due to the country's militaristic history the average German was probably more inclined to favor Nazism over Communism.

Not exactly. Although there were real casualties suffered by the police in putting down this attempted coup d'état, Hitler and his coconspirators served much less jail time than grandmothers who were at the capitol on Jan 6.

Except 21 people died, those in the putsch were arrested, given speedy trials, sentenced, and then released fairly shortly thereafter.

I wasn’t advocating a Commie takeover.

The best outcome would have been Hitler and his henchmen taken our, the Commies getting the blame and the democratic Germans winning out.

Thus no WWII.

But things were not that simple and those were desperate times is Germany.

Hitler? There was a painter! He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon....2 coats! (I think from the "Producers" but I may be wrong)....

you’re correct. that’s from the producers.

I always though beatknick hitler was funnier than Gay Hitler.

LOL...Gay Hitler is so obvious and lazy LOL but beatnick Hitler, now that takes some creativity! Could be that the original Producers though made gay Hitler so real that it became a cliche....

Trench warfare for years and then hyperinflation after the armistice.

Life in Germany & Austria sucked for a bunch of years.

Here’s an interesting thought, would the world have been better off if this “Putsch” succeeded?

Maybe the Nazis don’t get so crazy radical, or maybe they get overconfident and show their hand and the rest of the world catches on to what they were doing faster?

the original film they have the Beatnik but that movie came out in the 60s and the reference was topical really

it’s the musical where the gay director steps in to play Hitler and you get Nathan Lane’s Gay Hitler.

which is admirably funny but Beatnik Hitler was hilarious.

Eva Braun: Oh Hitler do you love me?
Hitler: I loves ya, I loves ya baby

Jan 6 it is the Nazis that are doing the prosecution of the “insurrectionists”

That photo is not from 1923. It is post-1933 when they carried out an annual commemorative march to remember the fallen members of the Putsch.

Hermann Goering was shot in the leg by rifle fire during the Putsch and this is the event that led to him becoming addicted to pain killers and sparked his subsequent spiraling weight gain.
