I live in University Club and just got this info via email from the neighborhood.

This is from Colonel Fritz with LA National Guard...

The lock that connect Bayou Manchac and Spanish Lake breached at Alligator Bayou. A lot of the water that would normally back up towards UC is now dumping into Spanish Lake. With Spanish Lake filling up, it will cause flooding to the women's prison in Saint Gabriel and the prisoners are now being evacuated to other prison facilities. I've also been told that there is now water on Hwy 74.

Saw this in the other thread. The women's prison news is old so maybe it's just a rumor. Can anyone in the area confirm?

Whoa, hope that isn't really the case.
If it is what would be the outcome? I assume bad news for Bayou Paul/St Gabriel/ Lower Hwy 74?

ETA: WAFB Reporter was just at the women's prison and said they are not evacuating, just getting ready in the case that it is needed.

There's water on 74 around bluff road. Also homes along 74 back going toward 30 have water in them.

He said that they are evacuating. The live shot he was showing was a few busses getting ready to load. However, he did say that the men's facility was not going to need evacuated. They've been bussing out of the women's since at least 1pm this afternoon.

Just spoke to the guy that owns the reception place on the corner of Bluff/Alligator Bayou, he said his flooded area just started flowing the right way which I would assume is Spanish Lake

What's new about any of this?

The water on 74 is a fricking puddle in front of neighborhood that doesn't cover the road and has only risen an inch or so since noon. Cars are flowing

If truly breached then that means water will be pouring through there at a very fast rate.

Yea... Ridge is covered in 4 spots. Deepest I seen was a little over 2 foot. Didn't ride to the back because people don't need anymore water in their houses. The marker I had in the back pasture is now over the 3 foot mark. I'm still a foot and a half to the good.

that's the word that gave me pause. Sure they aren't talking about water over the road? Cause all that other info is old/bad

That's my hope. Or them hearing about the sandbags that have been getting dropped and assuming it was a breach.

Sounds like they are talking about water topping over alligator bayou road.

But the water on 74 has definitely risen since this morning.

And actually sounds like all that info probably came from this board.

Hope it holds up. One friend just gave up on Ridge. Just went pick up all the stuff in my wife's classroom and put all her and other teachers stuff on tables at Spanish Lake Elem.

It's only the women. Women is 3ft Lower than the women. They started the evac & stopped. Only a couple hundred out of 1000. Not sure why
