That is what creates slums.

Some are in the process of killing it themselves. They just lost the power they had to kill it their way.

I would leave California with a quickness and sell any and all assets there.
My wife and I did 3-4 years ago or so. Even in the fairly conservative (especially for LA county) town of El Segundo, the writing was on the wall. It turned up more during covid.
I don't have anything invested in California anymore. I do have a bank account out there under the FDIC insured max amount but that's it. I should probably close it. I only really needed it when we had property there.

And for everyone saying California sucks, yeah it does. I enjoyed my time there and El Segundo is a great little town. Fantastic place to live if you have to reside in LA county.
But they have made it so bad, I haven't gone back in 4 years and might not ever go back.

I was there in the 90’s during my military days. Cali was horrible for costs even then.
If you retired military in Cali - and even if you moved out of state and set up legal residence in new state - Cali taxed your retirement income anyways.
So people who were going to retire and leave Cali got around it by having TAD orders cut transferring to a new state. Then retired in new state and got around paying Cali taxes on retirement.
But Cali got wise and their pols worked with military to stop the transfers to get around it. I can’t recall but I think it said you had to be stationed somewhere else for over a year and registered as resident there (in new state) for at least a year to avoid.
I was transferred out of Cali and did a full stint elsewhere so never had to worry but they tried to make me pay $1,800 for a car registered in FL while there. I beat it since I was a FL resident at that time (legally) and had to bring in proof and the $1,800 went away.
Someone should never take their last duty station in Cali else once retired and even if they move - Cali considers the retirement as having been earned in Cali and will tax it until you die.

Born and raised in Orange County and lived there more years of my life than anywhere else. California is an awesome place, but the policies and political bullshite ruined it and has made it an unbearable place to live.

And this will result in less affordable housing.

And with all that GDP they still can’t even pay their own bills, due to their reckless policies. Yet I’m supposed to believe they’re picking up everyone else’s tabs?

An old friend managed a production group in L.A. and she had a programmer employee who simply stopped working. Took months to actually fire him.

So this should drive down the demand to own these homes. Seems like that would lower the price of the homes. Wouldn’t it make homes for the residents more affordable?

How much time do you spend searching things that trigger you?

no you don't, they pay the souths bills.
The problem with California is....Californians.
I've spent a lot of time in California....that's why I CHOOSE to live in the South.
None of us are jealous of California or Californians for that matter.

I'm just curious how california is paying the bills in the south. What does that even mean?

So what are multi-unit landlords going to do? Sit on the property and continue to pay taxes and insurance without rent coming in?

He's arguing Cali net pays the fed and Louisiana net receives from the fed.
