With or without permits, I'm always concealed. Especially in a crowded unfamiliar place!

Why? I have guns but I prefer not to carry them around everywhere I go. I'm in my 50s and I've never been a situation where a concealed gun would have helped me - it only would have been a detriment. Maybe I'm playing with fate, but I don't like carrying unless I really feel the need - and I have from time to time. It's just not an everyday thing for me.

Best to read the statute than listen to a ccw lawyer at a gun range and not even discuss challenging it. DYOR

likely you can’t have it within so many feet of a parade as well

I hate the idea of this, leaving in your car is just not secure. I battle with it every time I go down there, do I keep Kane in the car and risk coming back to cinderblocks?

your conceal class is shite. Read the statue: RS 14:95.2.1

I’m sure the illiterate criminals in NOLA are up on the rules and regs of where one may carry and not. Keep that in mind as you abide.

22 mag is just going to irritate an Orleans Parish thug. You need to be packing 45 or bigger.

Because you've never been in the situation to need a weapon. I have. I stand corrected also. I'm not always strapped. When I leave my normal town areas, I'm always strapped. You don't need a gun until you need a gun! These days a permit doesn't dictate whether or not I'm protected and safer in these fricked up times.

This has got to be a troll job. I can't imagine anyone going through the CCP process just to carry a 22. I mean, I guess its better than nothing, but you better be a damn good shot under pressure, and prepared to use all 25 of those rounds.

If you go to New Orleans, bring your gun.

Doesn’t matter if you open or conceal.

Doesn’t matter if you have a permit or not.

Carry or stay away.

New Orleans may have the highest incidence of vehicle burglaries in the nation. Anything left in your car when you aren't there probably won't be there when you get back.

This, carry it on your person. I would rather that anyway in Nola. Honestly, the most dangerous place to be is at a gas station or a convenient store, that's where it seems most of the carjackings happen.

You sound like someone that’s going to get themselves killed escalating a situation after whipping out 22 with laser attachment

As others have stated, the law does not specify whether it applies for “spectators” or “performers” at a parade. The general rule of thumb I tell my students is to be smart - if you’re on a float and will be drinking, it’s obviously unwise and illegal to have it on you. If you’re watching the parade (sober) and have to walk a mile back to your car, use your discretion. Remember the BAC to carry (0.05) is lower than the BAC to drive (0.08).

As for those who advise against carrying a 22 magnum, I agree. I never advise someone carry a rimfire cartridge for self defense because they are so much less reliable than a centerfire option. 380/38 is usually the minimum suggested with 9mm being the most ideal mix of muzzle energy and capacity.

For all firearm laws, this site is always my first reference:

Handgun Law

hey white....chill.

i took my class years ago so things may have changed. the guy's main lesson is that you really do not want to be the one further defining these laws in court. IE stay out of it.

now to your point....
quote:

(3) "Parade route" means any public sidewalk, street, highway, bridge, alley, road, or other public passageway upon which a parade travels.

this is EXACTLY what I was referring to. this does NOT fully define the "route". what if i am 30 feet down a side street and not on the main route?

See how that works?

The code you linked does define parade and states within a 1000' of parade.

But

it doesn't state it is illegal to carry. It states what the punishment is if illegally carrying and a crime is commissioned within 1000' of parade.

It states:

quote:

Illegal carrying of a firearm at a parade with any firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence.....within one thousand feet of any parade or demonstration for which a permit is issued.....shall be fined not more than two thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not less than one year nor more than five years, or both.....etc.

Do you have a link to the section where LA CC law discusses CCing and parades. I'm in AL and have my permitt. I'd like to read the LA laws.

Thanks

That's the real issue. A 22 will still kill with good shot placement. You do generally have more capacity with that cartridge. Problem is, shot placement doesn't do much good if the weapon malfunctions.
