I recently heard the most outlandish wives’ tale about foods with red sauce (I.e. Spaghetti, Sauce Piquante). Supposedly women will put menstrual blood in the food when cooking to “trap” the man as some form of voodoo.
An African American coworker recently explained this to me. I thought he was nuts so I’ve asked many others about this and apparently it is a thing many in South Lousiana are taught at a young age. Anyone else heard of this and if so do you believe it?

How do you know it was just women? Could easily be men using their menstrual blood.

I’ve asked maybe 8-10 completely unrelated people and they all confirmed this. They will not eat red sauce that is cooked by a woman not in their family.

Black guy I work with said when he was dating his wife he went to meet her mother for the first time down around Selma. His mother told him that story that they would put the menstrual blood in red sauces so be careful. He told his mom she was crazy this girl isn’t into voodoo. He shows up at the girls house for dinner and they are having spaghetti. He ended up saying he was allergic to spaghetti sauce.

I’ve heard Italians say you can’t make red gravy during your time of the month because it will come out bad. It’s just a stupid woman thing they pass down to each other.

What about pizza sauce?

Honestly, it's 50-50 on my wife just poisoning me. Period pasta might not be so bad
