I would say that's impressive, but I know someone who still doesn't have an email address.

My mother and one of her friends would travel to a city either 50 or 100 miles away to make a yearly trek to Sears for Christmas shopping.

Back before cell phones and when Cortana Mall was king in Baton Rouge the mall was THE place to shop. I remember it used to take me an hour to get through the traffic to just get into the mall parking lot in the Christmas season weekends. I hated the traffic but I loved the shopping scene and just watching the people.

Remember what a landline cost compared to cellphone cost now? Ridiculous. How did we get conned into that?

Well in fairness, a cellphone nowadays is a smart phone so it does more than your land line or flip phone ever could Considering that a smartphone is essentially a hand held computer, the cost difference is understandable.

But I’m glad I still have a land line when the power is out or the cell towers are offline after a storm.

1. We went to the store.

2. We called them on the phone... if they weren’t home, we asked whoever answered to please have them call me.

3. We didn’t have time to argue while at work. We kept our focus on our work.

I can remember going to Mardi Gras in the early 90s. You’d have to have a predetermined meet up time and location planned well in advance. And... there was no Uber. There was a lot more drunk driving. There were times when people got lost or left. It always worked out though.

And I might add our Pre-Amazon sources were....

TG&Y
Howard Brothers
Montgomery Ward
Wilson’s
Steinberg’s (downtown)
DH Holmes
Goudchaux’s

And none were open on Sunday.

I’m surprised after 7 pages no one has mentioned the Citizens Band Radio (CB). We had that in all our cars/trucks in high school and even college. We had our own secret channel not to disturb the truckers or lot lizards.

We would then find out who was where and meet up in some random parking lot.

You bought stuff at Howard Bros or Wal Mart or Sears catalog.

Which brings up another idea: How did Sears go out of business considering they were literally the first Amazon? It’s just odd no Sears anymore.

We had social skills. We knew how to talk to human beings in person. I’m really sorry for your generation. You suffer so mightily in just basic human shite. I have a feeling the third world will eventually take you over. You better pray hard that the technology you’re so addicted to never ends, or you’re fricked.
