My 12 year old dog has started peeing in the house. She had a few accidents over the past month, but today, she urinated four times on the hardwoods in different rooms.

I’m taking her to the vet tomorrow to get checked for a UTI, but she hasn’t had any issues overnight or when we’ve been gone for work.

Any tips if this ends up not being medical?

Speaking of medical, she’s lost a lot of her hearing over the past few months. Thing is, sometimes she responds to simple calls or sounds that would get her attention. But a lot of the time, she’s completely aloof and even gets startled if I approach her without her noticing.

I guess I’m wondering if these are signs of dementia.

Could be medical: UTI, renal disease, diabetes or other endocrine (like Cushings), arthritis that is affecting urinary sphincter and causing incontinence or just means she is not wanting to squat long enough to fully empty her bladder, and neoplasia. It could also be canine cognitive dysfunction where she just gets confused, but like humans with sundowners you usually see more clinical signs at night. She also might just be saying screw it, why wait.

We've had a couple of females with this problem. Their hormone levels drop which causes the muscles that control their urinary function to atrophy. There's an oral medication that helps with it. Could be other things too, but that cause is pretty common.

Have had these issues before with female dogs. Nothing you can really do as long as it is not some sort of infection. Only thing that worked was a crate but Injiatbcould not do that to my dog after so many years of her sleeping in the bedroom with us.

I am not sure if these are related in anyway, but we put our dog down a few months after this started.

We got rugs and put those diaper pads under them. We wanted her to have her freedom to roam.

Good luck and I hope it gets better.

I prefer "Of Mice and Men" treatment... petting them, talking to them nicely, and they never see it coming

After my 11-year old started doing this I found out he had kidney disease. It would have killed him if arthritis didn’t take him first.

Started our two male dogs in them about a year ago when we were prepping our house to put on the market. We had damaged baseboards after a few years of two of our dogs trying to establish who the alpha dog was.

Kept them in them while we spent 3 months in an apartment and they’re gonna stay in them til they’re no longer with us. 13 year old shepherd/lab mix and a 9 year old Yorkie who is diabetic and has frequent urination.

It’s an old dog. I have a 14 year old and it pisses inside the house but 80 percent of the times on the potty pads. I just take him out more than I used to and it helps. But it’s an old dog and I accept the fact that his bladder isn’t like it used to be and I’m not happy that he is peeing in the house but the ol baw is probably gonna die soon and I’ll miss bitching about cleaning up the piss.

My old guy started doing this when he was 16+ yrs old. We put up with it for over a year. Placing Pee pads all over the house. He finally had to be put down due to kidney failure.

Good luck.

ETA: our dog had access to doggie door and could come and go outside whenever he wanted. Still didn’t stop him from pissing wherever the mood struck.

Has the dog had a lot of UTIs? Our dog did and when she started doing this a lot. Vet recommended we have a X-ray and her bladder was full of bladder stones, I felt so bad she had to deal with that for so long. Had surgery and got them out and put her on a diet to reduce the formation of crystals in her bladder. She is a much better dog now.

Probably a UTI. If not there are medications that work for females so they can hold it longer. These jokes are not funny. Senior dogs are the best.

There’s a med called Proin XR that helps bladder leakage issues
This sounds more like an UTI though

Mine is 10 & she’s started having hearing issues, I think it’s just old age

My dog just got over a UTI. He’s 4 and never had any issues until this. They gave him some doggy antibiotics and he was normal within a week. Praying that’s all it is
