Oklahoma Sooners assistant football coach Cale Gundy said on Sunday that he's resigning after saying a "shameful and hurtful" word during a team meeting last week.

In a statement posted to his Twitter account, Gundy, who was the wide receivers coach at the University of Oklahoma, explained he read a message on his player's iPad after he noticed the player was distracted at a film session.

"The words displayed has nothing to do with football," Gundy wrote. "One particular word that I should never – under any circumstance – have uttered was displayed on that screen. In the moment, I did not even realize what I was reading and, as soon as I did, I was horrified."

We all know what the "word" was and also what actions were taken against the player who had the ipad.

Either he's Ron Burgundy or there's more to this story.

His brother almost got fired and cut his salary $1mill because he wore an OANN t shirt while fishing. Seems like the critics want the Gundy brand cancelled entirely.

It’s not difficult. If you’re white, you can’t say that word and expect to keep your job. Under any circumstances

He read another persons words and he resigned over that? I misunderstand, he's a giant idiot, there's more to the story or he was looking for any way out of the organiztion.

Because what I think I read makes zero sense.

FFS, he’s resigning because he unintentionally mouthed the words of a player who probably thought he was being funny. Can someone direct me to the nearest jump-off point? I want to get off this shitty world.

The rumor is that he self-reported to Compliance Office after it happened and well...you know how the rest of the story goes.

Leftists are worse with "naughty words" than the evangelicals ever even thought of being.

And when it was Tipper effing GORE that led the charge to label record and censor, they still blamed "evangelicals".

Back to the OP: Gundy did the right thing here. "Oppressed" idiots like Ryan Clark would have made millions rallying to get this guy fired, all the while calling him a "nazi".

Progressives have won. Time to face reality. Losing your job isn't enough for them.

I am fine not saying the word, but when accidentally reading the word, unexpectedly, off of a piece of paper, where you are tasked with teaching these young men character, I do not see the issue here.

Eh, not worth it.

Just pointing out how bullshite it is for these little fascists to ban some words and not others, regardless of context.

After inward reflection it seems there is no such thing as “sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me”.

Double standard is just as "unjust" as the word itself.

And they're weak enough to acquiesce.
